What are the responsibilities and job description for the R&D Specialist, Screening & Discovery position at Regeneron?

We are looking for an R&D Specialist to join our VelociGene group. Our goal is to exploit the power of genetics to unlock the function of each gene in the genome. Regeneron scientists developed VelociGene®, a proprietary group of technologies for the modification of the mouse genome. The versatile VelociGene technology enables the tackling of projects ranging from a single base mutation to multi-gene deletions and the replacement of mouse genes with their human homologs.

In addition to using VelociGene technology to produce genetically modified mouse lines for drug development and discovery research at the various Therapeutic Focus Areas at Regeneron, the VelociGene group also conducts its own technology development, discovery research and target validation, often in collaboration with other groups at Regeneron.

In this role, a typical day might include the following:

• Assisting with the mouse genotyping workflow by following appropriate robotic methods for TaqMan qPCR setup.

• Contributing to identifying and troubleshooting routine genotyping related problems and/or optimizing processes.

• Participating in the conduct of genome-wide, forward genetic screens, including: plating, passaging, and cryopreservation of mammalian cell lines; derivation of clonal cell lines; transduction with transgenes, reporters, or CRISPR gRNAs; and preparing cells for flow cytometry experiments.

• Discussion and planning of experiments for target validation.

• Multi-tasking across assignments and operating optimally in the face of ambiguity and change.

This role might be for you if:

• You are excited to learn new technologies.

• You are interested in participating in our Technology Development efforts.

• You maintain scientific curiosity and familiarity with current advances in transgenic and genome engineering technologies and literature, and apply such knowledge toward development of new or improved technologies.

• You are interested in using cutting edge genetic tools to participate in discovery research.

• You thrive in a team environment and have strong collaborative and communication skills.

To be considered for this role, you must have a minimum of a Bachelor's in biology, molecular biology, or related biological sciences with 5 years of proven experience, or a Master’s degree with 3 years of relevant experience. A good understanding of mammalian genetics is essential. Experience performing mammalian cell culture is also essential. Experience with laboratory automation and/or with flow cytometry is helpful. Experience in the area of genome engineering including CRISPR/Cas9 technology and hands-on knowledge of molecular biology and recombinant DNA technology is a bonus. Experience with preferred digital literacy includes: word processing, spreadsheets, graphing, database management.

Does this sound like you? Apply now to take your first steps toward living the Regeneron Way! We have an inclusive and diverse culture that provides amazing benefits including health and wellness programs, fitness centers and stock for employees at all levels!
