JOB TITLE: Design Engineer
FLSA STATUS: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Director, Engineering

Summary:

Prepares working plans, detailed drawings and complete mechanical or electrical drawings of components and assemblies from notes, verbal instructions, and rough or details sketches for engineering or manufacturing purposes.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

Makes final sketch of proposed drawings, parts lists, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another and relation of various parts to whole structure or project.
Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
Makes any adjustments or changes necessary or desired. Modifies existing documentation per Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
Draws charts for presentations of statistical data. Draws finished designs from sketches. Selects suitable materials and finishes.
Uses computer-assisted draftings (CAD) equipment and software.
Makes engineering computations, writes specifications and makes adjustments in drawings of specification. Prepares design releases for manufacturing.
Verifies completed work, checking dimensions, materials to be used, and quantities.
Assists engineers in development of complex drawings involving some individual creativeness, application of advanced drafting techniques and knowledge of practical, mechanical and fabrication problems.
Prepares product cost estimates.

As necessary, performs other related duties of which the above are representative.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Specifications of Education and Training, Job-Related Experience, and knowledge/abilities are general guidelines based on the minimum experience normally considered essential to the satisfactory performance of this job by the average incumbent. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

College level education highly desirable with specialized instruction in drafting principles/techniques. Degree in Mechanical Engineering and plus.

MINIMUM DIRECTLY RELATED JOB EXPERIENCE:

Four years of related experience in technical, and manufacturing environments.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:

Knowledge of electro-mechanical drafting work.
High mechanical aptitude
Ability to read schematics and blueprints.
Knowledge of CAD equipment and MIL-STD drawings.
Knowledge of technical supervision techniques.
Knowledge of quality control.
Knowledge of project management techniques.
Knowledge of estimating methods
Knowledge of Manufacturing Engineering.
Ability to take calculated risks based on sound judgment.
Ability to conduct major research projects.
Ability to create and apply complex equipment.
Ability to establish procedures.
Ability to work in a production-oriented environment.
Ability to work under frequently changing priorities.
Ability to select and evaluate materials.
Able to read and comprehend documentation written in the English language.
Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
