Job Summary:Reporting to the Assistant Director of Student Accounts, the Student Accounts Representative is responsible for financial counseling of students, management of collection agency account referrals and ensures compliance with all current federal, state and local collection laws.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
In collaboration with the Office of Financial Aid, the Student Accounts Representative establishes student payment plans and payment arrangements, providing financial counseling with current and past due students; and initiates reasonable arrangements suitable for students and the University. This person researches and resolves complex student account issues related to student credit hours, financial aid eligibility, tuition, and non-tuition fees, referring students experiencing financial hardship to the Financial Distress Committee or appeals committees. The Student Accounts Representative monitors compliance of payment plan agreements, conducting outreach counseling; shifting accounts to the appropriate collection agencies as necessary and ensures Fair Debt Collections Practices and Fair Credit Reporting acts compliance. The Student Accounts Representative acts as the liaison to external collection agencies, investigating collection agency disputes, and furnishing documentation of debt as required. With regard to internal collection accounts, the Student Accounts Representative conducts monthly reconciliations ensuring accuracy of payment agreements and sends defaulted agreements to the pre-collections agency as the next step in the university's collections workflow.
MAJOR DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential:
1. Main point of contact for student financial counseling for all non-traditional students.
2. Establishes and manages student payment plans and agreements.
3. Provides phone, email and letter communication to defaulted accountholders.
4. Conducts daily pre-collection agency referrals and closures, monthly account reconciliation and debt recovery payment application.
5. Liaison to external collection agencies, verifying alignment of University policy and practices with federal, state and local collection law.
6. Understands and monitors Bankruptcy law ensuring University compliance.
7. Research and respond to internal and external collection agency disputes, providing documentation for debt validation.
8. Collaborates with Office of Financial Aid related to student financial awarding and funding availability options. Is the collection lead on all financial aid matters.
9. Performs related duties as necessary to support the Office of Student Accounts; identifying procedural issues and recommends a means of resolution to the Assistant Director of Student Accounts.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience:

A minimum of two years-experience with accounts receivables, collections and/or registration.

Experience in reconciliation processes.

Experience in a high-volume customer service area.

Experience in researching and successfully resolving issues.
Pay Rate:Up to $21.15/hour commensurate with qualifications
