The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is the state agency that focuses solely on policies, programs, and services for people with mental health challenges, substance use disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, or any combination of these. As Georgia’s public safety net, DBHDD operates six field offices and five hospitals throughout the state within three program areas: behavioral health, developmental disabilities and hospital services.

Georgia Regional Hospital at Savannah (GRHS) is a state-funded multi-service facility operated by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities. The hospital provides quality care to mentally ill adults and individuals living with intellectual and developmental disabilities from its 34-county catchment area in Southeast Georgia. GRHS opened in December of 1970 with a design to decentralize mental health services in the state and treat people nearer to their homes and families. The hospital provides evaluation and treatment to clients needing care. The hospital's admitting office is a psychiatric emergency receiving facility open 24 hours a day.

GRHS is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Nurse Manager - Registered Nurse Supervisor - Forensic Unit #5 AMH - 1st Shift.  This position will work the 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. shift.

Job Description:

This position serves as a back-up and assistant to the Nurse Manager on a 24-hour inpatient unit. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assumes designated unit leader in absence of Nurse Manager.
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for a unit.
  • Ensures that staff assess client health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records.
  • Oversees the provision and quality of nursing care.
  • Advises individuals on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management.
  • Supervises and plans work of assigned staff.
  • Performs job responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Serves as job expert or organization resource in assigned areas.
  • Administers prescribed medications and completes documentation on individuals' charts.
  • Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual care plans.
  • Maintains accurate, detailed reports and individual records.
  • Modifies individual treatment plans as indicated by individuals' responses and conditions.
  • Monitors all aspects of client care, including diet and physical activity.
  • Monitors, records and reports symptoms and changes in clients' conditions.
  • Observes nurses and visits clients to ensure that proper nursing care is provided.
  • Prepares individuals for, and assists with, examinations and treatments.
  • Provides education to individuals and their families at time of discharge.
  • Provides health care, first aid, immunizations and assistance in convalescence and rehabilitation.
  • Serves on organization-wide committees.
  • Supervises on-unit orientation / training for employees

 

Preferred Qualifications  

In addition to the State qualifications, preference will be given to candidates who possess some or all of the following:

  • Must obtain the Safety Cares certification by completion of new employee orientation
  • Valid Georgia License and/or Nurse Licensure Compact Multi-State License to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in Georgia
  • Minimum of three years of practice as a Registered Nurse
  • Experience supervising direct care staff
  • BSN a plus but not required.

Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university OR Associate's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university AND current Georgia license as a Registered Professional Nurse AND One year of professional nursing experience.
