What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Drafting Technician position at REI Engineers?
Summary: Use computer software to design plans for project specifications, assessments, and investigations. Create electronic versions of technical drawings produced by project engineers and managers. Work assignments are varied in nature and of considerable scope and complexity. Work will be performed on multiple projects simultaneously. Work will be performed under the oversight of project managers or engineers. The individual will also provide guidance and training to less experienced technicians. A senior drafting technician will serve as a mentor and encourage the advancement of the careers and knowledge of less experienced personnel.

Core Responsibilities:
- Use CADD software to create, modify and process technical drawings from field notes and hand sketches. Communicate with engineers, technicians, and clients about properties of drawings. Supervision is minimal, but engineering staff, as a quality procedure, may review work products. Print, bind and prepare physical copies of drawings. Provide technical help and mentoring to less experienced staff.
- Assist with scheduling of projects for drafting technicians when appropriate to meet scheduling
- Collect field data for use in various aspects of consulting/engineering services, such as specifications, assessments, and investigations. Field data consists of measurements for roof plans and details. Assist in problem-solving of difficult on-site conditions. Data collection is done under the general guidance of a project manager or more senior staff.
- Coordinate CADD standards with other offices in the firm to maintain consistency across the corporation. Work towards more accurate and efficient design and drafting procedures. Make recommendations on when standard practices and procedures need to change to accommodate changing technologies, industry practices and client needs.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
- Actively participate in recognizing and implementing areas of workplace inefficiencies, issues with internal culture or quality issues. Assist with improvements to policies and procedures to remedy conditions identified and for the overall growth of the company.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Expert knowledge and understanding of Autodesk software, concepts, and procedures.
- Broad knowledge of materials and installation processes used in construction projects.
- Ability to read and understand construction documentation, drawings, and specifications of any degree of complexity.
- Solid analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
- Word processing skills.
Education and Training:
- Technical school with associate degree in computer aided drafting/design.
Work Experience:
- Typically, five or more years of experience in a related field, preferably with a consulting and/or engineering firm. Formal educational or technical programs in a relevant field or relevant certifications may count towards experience.
Physical and Environmental Demands:
- Ability to work in a sitting position in an office environment.
