The Gastroenterology RN plans, coordinates, delivers, and evaluates nursing care for patients whose protective reflexes or self-care abilities are potentially compromised during operative or other invasive procedures. The RN specializes in illnesses and disorders related to the entire GI tract. The RN works collaboratively with other professionals to meet patient needs and is accountable for the patient outcomes resulting from the nursing care provided.
Overview of Responsibilities
1. Promote Mission Statement and C.A.R.E principles of organization.2. Adhere to the Admitting Policy and Discharge Policy standards of nursing care.3. Provide comprehensive nursing care to meet the total needs of the patient during the immediate Pre-Op, PACU, and Phase II period.4. Assist the physician in procedure and managing endoscopy scopes.5. Observe vital signs, IV site, dressings, tubes, drains, and any special monitoring equipment required for the admit and recovery period.6. Continually assess patient according to systematic approach and notify the anesthesiologist or surgeon of any pertinent findings or changes.7. Assess and implement discharge from each area of care i.e. Pre-Op, PACU, Phase II.2 | P a g e8. Initiate, maintain, and perform discharge instructions for use of PCA’s (if ordered for inpatients) and postoperative care at home.9. Assess patient/ family ability to comprehend and adhere to discharge planning and instructions.10. Use available resources to enhance the teaching plan.11. Responsible to stay self-informed of and support Policies and Procedures, Standards of Care, and Standards of Practice.12. Maintain work operations by following policies and procedures, Standards of Care, and Standards of Practice.13. Complete Healthstream requirements as assigned.14. Maintain annual competencies, licensure, and/or certifications and continuing education.
Education/Experience
Successful completion of ROSE and Reid Health orientation and competency based skills appropriate for the area assigned. Individual performance and competency based skills are maintained through ongoing and continued professional educational offerings.Education Required Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
Schedule Details
40 Hours Weekly. Flex Schedule. 06:30a-3:00p or 7:30a-4:00p.
