Job Summary: Our Operations Supervisors assist the Operations Chief in supervising daily operations of all field staff. They monitor employee performance, identify safety issues, and address operational needs. This includes facilitation of internal communication between field staff and management, outside agency interface, system status monitoring, facilitating short-term scheduling needs, equipment and supply maintenance, working in the field as needed, as well as other operational support functions as assigned by the Operations Chief.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervised by and reports to the Operations Chief.
  • Supervise all crew members in all aspects of training, daily activities and disciplinary action with support from HR and upper management.
  • Assures that all assigned personnel report to duty on time.
  • Relays and explains special messages and directives from the company's managers and directors.
  • Informs field providers of changes in regulations and policies, implications of new or amended policies or procedures and new techniques of patient care.
  • Assists field providers in performance of their duties.
  • Reviews quality of patient care reports and unit check out forms prepared by field providers.
  • Performs inspection tours of deployment stations and crew’s quarters.
  • Inspects the facility, equipment, supplies, and personnel to ensure efficiency and enforcement of company policies and procedures.
  • Tours response areas to ensure proper execution of appropriate field and patient care procedures.
  • Determines a plan of action for ambulances to respond to multiple casualty incidents, participates in MCI drills, and arranges for crew participation for training Responds to scenes, when necessary, to coordinate and supervise field provider activities and to report events to managers and directors.
  • Recommends the purchase of new equipment and use of new techniques in EMS field operations.
  • Directs personnel in the use of vehicles and patient care equipment.
  • Investigates charges of inefficiency or neglect of duty against field providers and recommends action based on the findings.
  • Recommends awards for personnel achieving superior performance.
  • Investigates and prepares reports of accidents involving equipment, patients and personnel.
  • Promotes health care awareness and prevention by participating in community activities and serves as a company representative promoting positive customer relationships through proactive involvement in public business. Also, facilitates in-services for facilities to help staff members gain a better understanding of our services.
  • Inspects uniform appearance of field providers and checks ambulances for conformity to standards.
  • Prepares reports about shift activities, unit efficiency, discipline, and personnel evaluation and submits reports to managers and directors.
  • Prepares weekly deployment schedules for field providers maintaining adequate coverage for call volume, fills vacancies in the shift schedules and projects future labor needs.
  • Assists field providers in obtaining necessary licenses, permits, classes, and certifications to maintain active provider status.
  • Assists in the training of field providers. Monitors inventory for supplies, places and receives orders, and distributes equipment and supplies.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement activities including audits, peer review and data collection activities.
  • Participates in continuing education activities as a student, instructor, and proctor. Ensures compliance by monitoring ETA's, radio communication, and reviewing reports for EMS agencies.
  • Enforces company policies and procedures, Codes of Safe Practices, Injury and Illness Prevention Program, and local EMS policies.
  • Documents all corrective and/or disciplinary actions performed. Promotes good customer care and investigate all reported concerns and issues relating to requests for service.
  • Provides positive leadership by example and promote teamwork.
  • Facilitates and documents crew meetings for safety issues, policy and procedure updates, and performance issues.
  • Conducts periodic visits to facilities to monitor performance of dispatch and crews and address any issues or concerns of facility staff.
  • Responds on a unit to calls during periods of increased call volume.
  • Attends all supervisor / management meetings
  • Arrives for duty appropriately groomed and in the proper work dress/uniform
  • Maintains punctual and regular attendance
  • Completes all required/assigned Company training
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications & License/Certification:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must have a clean background and ability to pass a drug screen
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; strong listening and comprehension abilities, adaptability to quickly evolving situations, and strong decision making.
  • State of North Carolina EMT-B (Required) and National Registry EMT-B Certification (Preferred)
  • BLS CPR Certification (Required)
  • Valid Driver’s License (Required)
  • 1 year of EMT experience (Preferred)
  • 1-2 years of Supervisor / Management experience (Preferred)
  • EVOC (Preferred)

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work days, nights, weekends and holidays, extended workdays.
  • Long periods inside the ambulance.
  • May work indoors or outdoors with exposure to weather.
  • Possible routine exposure to moderate noise levels.
  • May periodically work in poorly lit environments in a moving vehicle

Physical Demands:

  • Moderate to extended amounts of sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Some repetitive motion activities.
  • Routinely lifting more than 300 lbs. with assistance.
  • Pushing, pulling, reaching, lifting, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, carrying, typing and stair climbing.
  • Visual identification of color-coded items.
  • Clear speech and hearing.
  • Must be able to wear a face mask or respirator with proper fit for extended periods when required
