What are the responsibilities and job description for the Journeyman Mechanical Specialist AVSF position at Reliance Test & Technology?
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Design, fabricate, modify, and install mechanical systems/sub-systems and hydraulics, hoses, pumps and fittings. Perform sheet metal work and operating Bridgeport-type milling machines, lathes, welders, tungsten inert gas (TIG) and metal inert gas (MIG), and other related shop machines. Analyze, design, laying out, drill, and tap a variety of materials, including aluminum, steel, titanium, and composites.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: TIG and MIG welding certificate. High school graduate or equivalent (GED) and 8 years’ experience in hydraulics, and/or pneumatics, and/or metal fabrication.
GENERAL DUTIES: Assist lower level mechanical technicians in mechanical installations, mechanical repair activities, fabrication, and system/sub-system operation(s). Use and maintain proficiency in CAD/CAM programs and in reading blueprints, drawings, etc. Fabricate simple to moderately complex test fixtures to precise specifications. Design, fabricate, modify, and install mechanical systems/sub-systems and hydraulics, hoses, pumps and fittings. Fabrication, modification, and repair of test articles made from various composite materials. Conduct safe handling of fuels, lubricants, and various chemicals. Perform sheet metal work and operate Bridgeport-type milling machines, lathes, welders, tungsten inert gas (TIG) and metal inert gas (MIG), and other related shop machines. Analyze, design, laying out, drill, and tap a variety of materials, including aluminum, steel, titanium, and composites.
OTHER DUTIES: May be required to handle hazardous materials and/or collect hazardous waste. Additional duties may be assigned to support contract/mission support requirements in job-related areas.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. All selected candidates must undergo and successfully pass a background investigation and drug test as a condition of placement into this position. Supports E-OMS operational objectives. Observes company Quality, Safety, Environmental, Security and Administrative policies; supports Process Improvement.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position may function in a variety of environmental conditions both inside and outside, depending on mission requirements.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be capable of performing required tasks while using wide variations of physical effort such as sitting, running, walking, standing, crawling, climbing or remaining in awkward, sometimes strained, positions for extended periods of time.
