In summary, the medical assistant position is very important, being the work-horse practice. The medical assistant is responsible for accurate, efficient, multi-tasking ability to:
- Room patients completely according to the needs of the patient and Physician or NP
- Maintain the patient rooms so that everything needed is always available and functional
- Optimize patient flow from check-in to check-out
- Field medical questions and calls from patients, including triage
- Organize and reorder medical supplies
- Educate patients and wrap up visits
- Renew medications, including research of renewal preferences of provider and alerting front desk for need to follow-up
- Assist in Prior Authorization of medications and tracking expirations to prevent lapse
- Perform basic procedures of practice, including spirometry, allergy skin testing, pulmonary function testing, and administration of immunotherapy; advanced MA’s will learn more advanced procedures
- Assist in day-to-day optimal functioning of the clinic and Physician or NPs schedule, all with accuracy and efficiency

- Our Medical Assistants are required to be at clinic from 8:30 am to 5 pm Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday; 8:30 to 6 pm Thursday; and 7 am to 12 pm on Friday for clinic. Friday afternoon is for completing paperwork when needed. We also have 1-2 hours per month of trainings and/or Team Meetings during lunch or at the end of clinic on Friday.
