Remote Medical International is seeking a new member for our team to serve as HSE Medic. The successful HSE Medic will have a can-do, roll up your sleeves attitude and will be responsible for all aspects of health management and support including Primary Care and Trauma Care. The Medic reports to the Master on all medical cases. This role carries HSE responsibilities, supporting Line Management and providing advice on HSE matters and promoting a strong HSE culture.

Remote Medical International personnel have the responsibility to observe, respect and comply with the Client’s HSSEQ standards and commitments as issued by their departments and their managers.
Remote Medical International personnel have an obligation to avoid or stop work that is unsafe.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Daily walk around vessel, hazard hunts and participation in toolbox talks
- Promote company HSSEQ policies including right-to-stop-work aboard vessels and activities involving sub-contractors.
- Ensure that all personnel are aware of the crew safety structure including Client’s Medical Emergency Response Plan (MERP) and Disaster Plan.
- Participate in and organise Emergency Response drills.
- Ensure that all personnel are familiar with the HSSEQ practices and procedures for their job and that these practices are being adhered to.
- Report all accidents, near misses and unsafe conditions.
- Support development of Management System HSSEQ documentation.
- Ensure that all personnel are trained in accordance with statutory HSE Training and ensure records of HSEQ training are maintained.
Provide guidance on maintenance, inspection and replacement of PPE as necessary.- Carry out audits to continually review and improve practices and procedures by taking into account lessons learned, hazard identifications and risk assessments.
- Check all equipment for hazards and possible improvements.
- Assist the Master where required to ensure the safety and welfare of all visitors and newcomers.
- Organise and conduct induction training and meetings for new personnel joining the crew and provide them with relevant HSSEQ material.
- Assist Line Management in setting agenda for safety meetings.
- Provide follow up and analysis of incidents, non-conformities, statistics and improvement processes to Management and crew.
- Dissemination of HSSEQ information and alerts to crew.
- Assist with and participate in incident investigations including gathering data and analysing information to determine immediate, underlying and root cause.
- Disseminate findings to Line Management and crew.
- To provide primary & emergency care for all crew members including diagnosing and managing routine medical conditions and minor injuries.
- To discuss all significant medical cases with Topside Doctor and if necessary summon emergency medical support and prepare personnel for evacuation in accordance with the vessel’s Medical Emergency Response Plan (MERP) and the Party Chief and Captain.
- To provide follow up treatment in cases of injury and illness where evacuation is not required.
- To undertake accurate clinical assessment and examinations.
- To maintain up-to-date, accurate, individual medical records for all crew members.

To report medical treatments in accordance with requirements of the Client:
- Medical Treatment Cases (MTC)
- Restricted Work Cases (RWC)
- First Aid Cases (FAC)
- Lost Time Injury Cases (LTI)
- Ensure that appropriate immunisation recommendations are understood and implemented by the crew as required.
- Assessment and immediate treatment of serious illness or injury.
- Referral of patients where treatment is outside the scope and resources of Medic.. Ensure consultation with Topside Doctors, Party Chief and Captain to ensure effective emergency evacuation.
- Travel with patient (if necessary) to nearest approved Medical Facility.
- Provide detailed handover notes of evacuation at crew change.
- Be aware of their role in the Client’s Medical Emergency Response Plan (MERP).
- Understand their role in the Client’s Disaster Plan.
- Ensure that an area for triage and multiple casualties is identified and documented in Disaster Plan.
- Ensure that critical medical supplies and equipment are pre-packed and available for emergency use at dispersed sites or during patient transport.
- Participate in simulation exercises organised by management.
- Ensure that the clinic is kept in a clean, hygienic and tidy state and is accessible to crew members when the Medic is present.
- Maintain records of the clinic stock, including Controlled Drugs Register and clinic inventory.
- Ensure that stock levels are maintained and that all medicines are in date.
- Comply with legal and professional standards relating to storage, dispensing, administration and disposal of medications.
- Ensure that equipment is well labelled in accordance with the Client’s requirements.
- Monitor availability, functionality and condition of all medical facilities, stretchers, first aid points and eyewash stations. Effect replacement, repair and servicing as and when required.
- Maintain records on medical equipment, detailing checks that have been performed.
- Ensure food supplies storage and preparation meet accepted standards (e.g. temperatures).
- Carry out weekly audits of the kitchen and mess areas with appropriate reporting to HSE Team and catering staff.
- Ensure that all food handlers on the vessel are medically fit for duty (e.g. absence of acute or chronic illness).
- Alert HSE Team about any outbreaks of gastrointestinal illness that may be related to food or water.
- Ensure an effective response in emergency situations by providing regular first aid training including CPR for Medical Emergency Response Teams and First Aid Personnel.
- Arrange for periodic simulated exercises and drills for First Aid Personnel.
- Co-ordinate and supervise First Aid Teams during medical and operational emergencies.
- Maintain records that demonstrate Medical Emergency Response Teams are up to date with first aid training and have full understanding of their roles and the equipment they may be required to use.
- Ensure that first aid equipment is maintained and checked on a regular basis.
- Be aware of their role in the Medical Emergency Response Plan (MERP)
- Promote healthy lifestyle in accordance with Client’s policy by delivering regular training on health issues as per agenda.
- Advise crew members on general matters relevant to their health and well being.
- Advise crew members on topical health issues as recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
- Be aware of regulatory health requirements.
- Undertake regular water testing.
- Conduct monthly inspections to ensure that sanitation and solid waste treatment practices are being followed in accordance with Client’s procedures.
- Ensure appropriate disposal of clinical waste in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Ensure, in conjunction with local management, that appropriate control measures for vector-borne diseases are in place.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Three years in safety related position in offshore or seismic industry
- Familiar with marine vessel operation, management and systems
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- 2 years Offshore experience
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, and general computer & technology literacy

- Internal Auditor Course
