What are the responsibilities and job description for the Loader Operator position at Renaissance Contractors, Inc.?
SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the foreman, the Loader Operator operates a rubber-tired, skid steer, or crawler-type tractor with an attached scoop-type bucket on the front end. The machine is used to load materials from stockpiles, excavation, batch plants, and loading/unloading trucks and may be used with attachments in lieu of the bucket. The employee may oil, grease, or otherwise service and make necessary adjustments to equipment as needed. The employee performs other related duties as assigned by the foreman or the management team.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ø Operate heavy equipment of various sizes and weights used in road, site, or highway construction and paving
Ø Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures.
Ø Bring problems to the attention of the Foreman, Superintendent, or Project Manager
Ø Follow daily procedures and protocols as set forth by operation supervisors
Ø Perform routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or repairs to supervisor, clean equipment
Ø Assist in training lower-level employees performing the maintenance and repair duties, as required or assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND TRAINING:
Ø Considerable knowledge of heavy-equipment operating principles
Ø Ability to drive and operate the equipment under varying working conditions
Ø Working knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in street and road construction work
Ø Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations
Ø Ability to perform manual work requiring periods of extensive physical exertion and potential exposure to adverse weather conditions
Ø Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions
Ø Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
PHYSICAL ASPECTS OF THE POSITION:
Ø Work is regularly performed in outside weather conditions, including rain and extreme heat, near moving mechanical parts
Ø Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, vibration, dust, and asphalt
Ø The noise level is usually loud
Ø Frequent sitting, talking or hearing
Ø Use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls
Ø Walk short distances, sometimes over uneven terrain
