Overview
The Staff Underwriter will be responsible for underwriting of conventional (Conforming and Non-Conforming) FHA, Rural Development, State Authority, and VA loans for Renasant Bank.

Responsibilities
- Underwrite all above loans for retail branches and wholesale customers in all lending areas
- Ability to underwrite conventional (conforming and non-conforming) FHA, Rural Development, State Authority, and VA loan files
- Validate data integrity of documents of loans submitted versus data entry in AUS systems
- Review appraisals of loans for acceptable collateral to meet investor and agency requirements. Follow company procedures on level of review required
- For loans not eligible under program submitted, maintain knowledge of other programs to make recommendation for possible counter offer
- Communicate with loan officer(s) and processor(s) on loan decision and document requirements via phone and/or email. Decisions other than approval should be communicated verbally
- Verify data integrity within LOS and generate loan decision within LOS
- Insure flood certification is received and correct data entered in LOS system
- Order private mortgage insurance certificate of files as needed
- Upload FHA appraisals to EAD portal and complete FHA appraisal logging in FHA Connection
- Issue VA NOV’s through the VA portal after review of LSAM report provided by VA
- Prepare credit package and submit to Rural Development office or State Housing Authority office for approval. Conditional commitment and State Housing Authority approval to be uploaded to imaging system with approval
- Utilize any and all applicable tools, models, and resources available to aid in the decision making process (i.e., Fraudguard, Collateral Underwriter, etc.) and discern when more information is necessary (As applicable to specific loan program)
- If jumbo underwriter, review and upload loan file and be liaison between investor and processor on items needed to clear/approve
- Work with closing department to properly close loans with correct documents, conditions, and terms. Ensure documents requiring buyer/seller signature are provided to closer
- Work with QC and post closing department to clear any additional conditions needed by internal auditor, agency, or investor
- Stay current on all agency and investor guidelines. Sign up for updates for all agencies – FNMA, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, USDA/RD, and state housing agency
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of 10 years experience in Underwriting
- Ability to make underwriting decisions with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of DU, LP, GUS, and other investor automated systems
- Meet tight deadlines and multi-task under pressure
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products
- Ability to type 40-50 wpm accurately
- Knowledge of and aptitude in basic math
- Ability to learn varied job assignments readily
- Ability to communicate with the public in a courteous and professional manner
