What are the responsibilities and job description for the Top Geek position at Reno Typographers, Inc?
Reno Type, the area's favorite and fastest growing printing company and finalist in the most recent Northern Nevada "Best Places to Work" competition has an opening for a real Geek.
We're looking for the person who get's called when "my email isn't working," or who rolls their eyes and thinks "just reset the $^**%!@! router" when they hear someone complain loudly "The internet is down again!." This makes it sound like our email never works or that the internet is down all the time. That's not the case. We just need someone who can handle it "if and when." We work with an MSP that we love. They're not going away. We just want to call them less often, ya know?
Our top geek will be the first line of support for our growing staff. But with only 17 of us, that's hardly a full time job. So when you're not reinstalling MS word or resetting a router, we have a whole bunch of other stuff. Like what? I'm glad you asked!
- Make data sing: We put addresses on LOTS of mail, and sometimes have to provide, fix, modify or enhance the data from which we do that. We need someone who has more than just a passing familiarity with data management and manipulation.
- Wrangle the phone and internal communications systems. We use a VOIP phone system and a few other tools to manage communications among our team and with the outside world. It's not hard, but the system needs a champion who will make sure we're getting the most out of it.
- Become an expert in our MIS, Inventory and CRM systems: Chances are, you've never heard of "Printers Plan," "My Order Desk," "Plan Profit," "Sage" or "Flowtrack." Well... this is your chance! These "off the shelf" software packages are the backbone of the business, and we need someone to own them, update them, troubleshoot issues with them, and maybe even to recommend replacement systems if that's what's needed.
- Sling some HTML: We manage a number (10?) of procurement websites for clients, and are adding more regularly. Part of your job will be using our existing tools to manage and update these websites. You'll wind up as the Reno Type webmaster/mistress too!
- Make Hardware and Software purchase recomendations.
Yeah, we're looking for a unicorn. Here's hoping you have a single horn growing out of the center of your forehead. Metaphorically. That actually sounds like it would hurt and play havoc with headwear.
We can't imagine paying anyone less than $25/hour for this, and the right person with real world IT experience and/or certifications and the like could earn considerably more.
After 90 days, you and your dependents will receive medical, dental and vision insurance at no cost to you. Plus 9 paid holidays, and 3 weeks of paid vacation. Oh... and we'll match contributions to a simple IRA dollar for dollar up to 3% of your annual wages.
We'll need a resume listing relevant training, certifications and experience. And if you want to be considered, you MUST INCLUDE a cover letter that speaks to your interest in THIS position. Doesn't have to be long, but it DOES have to be there. When your application is rejected without having spoken to us, it will most likely be because you left this bit out.
