Who are we? 

SOLitude Lake Management – a proud member of the Rentokil family of companies - provides aquatic management services to lakes, ponds, reservoirs, and wetlands. SOLitude offers a wide variety of services including fishery programs, algae and aquatic weed control, mechanical harvesting/hydro-raking, installation/maintenance of fountains and aeration systems, and water quality testing. 

Responsibilities

What do our Fisheries Biologist do?


Our Fisheries Biologist is responsible for servicing our client’s lakes and ponds with a primary focus on electrofishing, seining, trapping, liming, fish stocking, installing feeders and testing water quality. Fisheries Biologist will work client’s to development and  implement short and long-term plans. Fisheries Biologist must also perform other related work required to service each of the company’s customers and to help the business grow by performing the following duties personally.

 

Functions include, but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Perform quantitative and qualitative fishery and aquatic investigations and analysis using a variety of techniques including electrofishing, seining, and netting as it pertains to each site and client.
  • Transport and stock fish into ponds and lakes.
  • Support the Fisheries Team and support staff with field and technical support.
  • Assess fishery habitat in ponds and lakes and install beneficial habitat as needed.
  • Perform bathymetry studies to create contour maps of lakes and ponds.
  • Diagnose and treat for algae, submersed and floating weeds, shoreline weeds, non-desirable buffer vegetation, or other unwanted vegetation and water quality issues. Perform fountain and aerator installs, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Communicate with clients as needed to keep them informed of work performed, issues discovered, and any other item of need or interest.
  • Extended/overnight travel will be required at times for training and professional functions as well as to remote locations for fish sampling operations.
  • Work daily to ensure that all equipment, trucks, trailers, and warehouse facilities are maintained in clean working order.

What do you need?

 

  • Degree in Fisheries science or closely related field required
  • 5 years’ experience in fisheries-related position (a master’s degree may substitute for two years’ experience)
  • Fish sampling techniques, especially boat electrofishing
  • Knowledge of fisheries management, fish ecology, and limnology
  • Aquatic vegetation identification and management
  • Knowledge of project management, practices, principles, and techniques
  • Experience with safe boat hauling and operations
  • Possesses or can obtain a state pesticide license
  • Aptitude in using various hand tools
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Ability to follow established procedures and practices
  • Commitment to all health and safety guidelines
  • Effective verbal, written, and listening communication skills
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Must pass pre-employment background screen 
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and pass motor vehicle record search

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

 

  • The work requires strenuous physical exertion, and the employee may be required to drive, stand, walk, bend, sit, climb, kneel and crouch for extended periods of time, as well as see, talk, hear and use hands and arms to grasp, handle, reach and feel.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. in a repetitious manner.
