What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Health Technician position at Research Lab?

This position involves previous experience in animal care, laboratory animal medicine, veterinary medicine, and/or laboratory research.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Excellent communication skills to facilitate problem resolution, receive creative feedback and direction.
  • Initiative, flexibility, and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of computers and ability to manage clinical records and clinical data
  • Knowledge of animal care and/or veterinary medicine
  • Animal blood collection experience
  • Reliability to work independently to complete job responsibilities
  • Learn new procedures and solve routine technical problems as needed
  • Ability to maintain a clean and organized work environment and records
  • Ability to work in an enclosed environment exposed to smells, dust, and dander of a wide variety of animals including rodents, cats, dogs, guinea pigs, rabbits, birds, sheep, goats, horses, monkeys, ferrets, pigs, cows, and other large animals, small animals, and exotic animals, etc.
  • Remember large amount of details, know and apply UGA and regulatory agencies’ policies, draw appropriate conclusions from information available.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing to a variety of individuals including faculty, staff, auditing agencies, etc.
  • See well enough to perform a physical examination and hear well enough to auscult.
  • Perform duties wearing Tyvek jumpsuit, two pairs of gloves, and a respirator (either N95 or powered air purifying respirator).

Physical Demands

  • Frequent movement between facilities
  • Ability to squat, kneel, reach overhead, walk stairs, and stand on ladders
  • Routinely lift and carry up to 40 pounds
  • Occasionally operating heavy equipment
  • Driving as needed to perform job related duties.

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Pay: $36,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
