What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buyer position at Reser's Fine Foods, Inc.?
General Summary: Manages the purchasing, costing, and inventory of raw materials.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
1. Negotiates or renegotiates and administers contracts with suppliers, vendors, and other representatives.
2. Studies market prices and trends, engineering developments and manufacturing method improvements applicable to assigned responsibilities.
3. Monitors and tracks goods in transit to ensure timely delivery of components to support Manufacturing Production Schedules.
4. Ensures inventory levels are maintained to fulfill customer orders while maximizing cash flow.
5. Seeks, evaluates, and implements cost reduction opportunities.
6. Prepares purchase orders or bid proposals and reviews requisitions for goods and services.
7. Evaluates and monitors contract performance to determine need for changes and to endure compliance with contractual obligations.
8. Confers with personnel, users, and vendors to discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services and determines corrective action. Arbitrates claims and resolved complaints generated during performance of contract.
9. Assists in the daily inventory of raw product on hand.
10. Maintains computerized procurement records, such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories to ensure component, standard cost and lead time are maintained within the system.
11. Executes special projects as delegated by the management team.
12. Communicates and manages the introduction of new products to the plant.
13. Participates in inventory control and investigates and solves inventory discrepancies.
14. Resolves vendor service and quality problems.
Job Specifications
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Business is preferred.
2. 5-7 years purchasing experience or equivalent is required. Knowledge of food industry is preferred.
3. Intermediate to Advanced PC skills are required.
4. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
5. English/Spanish bilingual a plus.
Working Conditions
1. Refrigerated food manufacturing plant.
2. The environment may be wet or dry and temperatures may range from 25°F to 110°F.
