JOB DESCRIPTION: The QA Inspector is responsible for conducting incoming, in-process and final QA inspections to verify product and labeling meets specifications. Inspections include visual and physical examination, functional testing and dimensional analysis using a variety of equipment and gauges. The QA Inspector must accurately document results in accordance with AFW and customer requirements. They must also communicate effectively with various departments, including warehouse, production and engineering personnel.
Primary Responsibility
- Conducts routine incoming, in-process and final QA inspections to evaluate product and labeling in accordance with documented instructions and specifications;
- Must be able to accurately read/interpret engineering drawings and other similar specifications;
- Samples product and labels according to established sampling plans and documented instructions;
- Communicates with suppliers and sister companies to obtain CofC’s, inspection data, and other documentation, as needed, including generation of quality metrics;
- Identifies and segregates nonconforming materials in accordance with documented instructions;
- Accurate and timely completion of inspection reports, NC reports, logs and other records is required;
- Works in an organized manner at all times, to ensure lot traceability and to prevent mix-ups;
- Maintains visual standards in an organized and controlled manner; and
- Adheres to all regulations, safety rules/practices and organizational policies and procedures.
Secondary Responsibility
- Project and/or responsibilities to be defined to meet business needs; tasks to assist manufacturing, engineering and other personnel with D&D projects, validation, verification;
- Periodically assists warehouse personnel with receiving activities; and,
- Periodically assists with other special projects or tasks directed by management.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
High school graduate or GED equivalent required.
A minimum of 1 year experience working in a QA/QC inspection role or similar is required.
Medical device/pharma/ISO experience highly desired.
Good oral and writing skills required. Must be able to speak, read and write the English language and perform basic mathematical calculations. Must be able to pass all reading/writing/math competency tests.
Familiarity with inspection techniques and common inspection equipment and gauges, including calipers, micrometers, scales, multi-meters, pressure gauges, is required. Precision/Vision measurement system experience desired.
Must have computer skills, including the latest version of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. Excel skills required include formula creation/modification, filters, sorting, data validation and conditional formatting. Must also be proficient in using the internet and other common computer concepts/programs (data entry, network file sharing, Adobe Reader, ERP systems, MS Outlook, etc.).
Must be able to safely operate a pallet jack. Forklift experience/certification is desired.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to stand or sit for an extended period of time.
- Must be able to lift or move boxes of various sizes and shapes.
- Must be able to push/pull carts loaded with boxes/products for inspection.
- Vision: Must be able to distinguish colors and have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.
