Insurance Authorization Specialist
Job Description
Retina Consultants is seeking an experienced and reliable authorization specialist to join our busy 7 provider ophthalmology office. Candidates must have prior authorization experience in ophthalmology, with a solid knowledge of insurance EOB’s, CPT, HCPCS, and ICD 10 codes. This position requires a highly reliable individual who is capable of efficient, independent work.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Obtain referrals and authorizations on a daily basis
Obtain any prior and same-day approvals for in office procedures/injections/J codes as directed by insurance payer
Verify insurance eligibility for patients
Assist with authorization denial appeals
Regularly call insurance companies to follow up
Complete data entry of all patient demographics, guarantor, and insurance information
Keep sensitive patient and company information confidential
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum 1 year experience with obtaining insurance authorizations
Minimum 1 year experience in ophthalmology
Experience with medical insurance, including HMO and PPO plans
Knowledge of computer systems, including HER and general principles of medical record documentation
Familiar with medical terminology
Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with patients, physicians, and office staff
Outstanding time management and organization skills
