What are the responsibilities and job description for the Design Engineer, Web position at Retool?
Thousands of customers use Retool to power their businesses with custom internal software, from early-stage startups to Fortune 500 companies. As quickly as we’re growing, we’ve barely scratched the surface: we have a huge opportunity to share the value of Retool, the impact the product has for our customers, and how we’re changing the way internal tools are built.
For most, our web presence is the first impression of Retool. No matter where a visitor lands—retool.com, our blog, the community, documentation—we want to create a cohesive interactive experience that reflects the power, flexibility, and speed of the Retool product.
We have both high expectations and a demanding, technically-savvy audience of developers. We expect our web presence to be highly informative, eminently usable, and visually stunning. Most of all, it should meet our visitors at their point of need and provide a seamless transition to immediately building software inside of Retool.
To help lead this vision, we’re looking for a full-stack web engineer interested in operating at the intersection of design, code, and content.
As an engineer on our design engineering team, you’ll own implementation of projects across all of our web touch points (retool.com, our blog, the community, documentation, and more) from start to finish. Working with internal and external stakeholders, you’ll collaborate on design approaches and communicate technical trade-offs. You’ll audit our current tech stack and content management infrastructure and design a path forward that scales with our aggressive goals and makes it easier for others to contribute.
Most importantly, you’ll sweat the details: whether it’s implementing a complex React animation, shaving seconds off of time to interactive, or improving the reliability of the build pipeline.
As a design engineer you will work closely with other members of the design engineering team and brand design team. You will collaborate on projects from the ideation phase through to the final launch. The entire design team is committed to making retool.com a unique and engaging experience. The work done by the design team has a major impact on potential and existing customers’ perception of Retool and is critical to the success of the company.
You’ll also be joining a broader team of Retools who are passionate about serving our customers and enjoy collaborating with each other to build a company from the ground up.
