Description
RETTEW, an industry-leading engineering consulting firm, is seeking a Soil Scientist to join our dynamic GeoEnvironmental team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to apply their skills and knowledge in soil science while working on exciting projects.
Responsibilities:
- Lead soil investigations for stormwater infiltration.
- Prepare technical reports based on the results of soil investigations.
- Conduct field inspections on stormwater BMPs during the construction phase.
- Conduct percolation testing in support of on-lot sewage disposal projects.
- Conduct critical stage inspections at various project sites during the construction phase.
- Log geotechnical boreholes and prepare log profiles according to the United Soil Classification System (USCS).
- Assist in Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and Phase II subsurface investigations.
- Conduct environmental field investigations (soil and groundwater sampling) using prescribed methods.
- Data reduction and preparation of laboratory data.
- Consult senior project staff about regulations concerning project issues; assist in researching applicable regulations.
- Assist with various permit applications and specifications for project compliance needs.
- Assist with conducting geophysical surveys.
Requirements:
- Two to five years of experience in soil evaluations, environmental consulting, and geotechnical investigations are preferred.
- Degree in Soil Science and/or related Environmental Science Discipline with a strong emphasis on Soil Science.
- Desire to learn a wide variety of disciplines but focusing mainly on Soil Science and related technical areas.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER trained a plus.
- Periodic overnight travel, occasional project-specific extended travel.
- Word and Excel proficient; GIS and/or CAD experience a plus.
- Ability to lift 75 lbs.
