Supervisor: Chief Operating Officer & Chief Financial Officer

Employment Status: Full-time, Exempt, Supervisory, Non-Remote

Compensation: $100,000 DOE

Position Summary:

The Director of Finance, herein referred to as DOF, is a reliable professional with a broad knowledge of all accounting, financial and business principles. The DOF is charged with ensuring the development, implementation, and administration of the company’s finance department, including but not limited to overseeing payroll, eXPRS uploads, accounting operations, producing accurate reports, increasing department efficiency, and overseeing the performance of the subordinate employees in the finance department.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • The Finance Director supervises and maintains disciplinary authority over employees in the Finance department.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Supervise subordinate employees in the finance department, including assigning and reviewing work, training, evaluating performance, handling escalated disciplinary actions, and providing final determination on hiring and termination decisions.
  • Provide leadership and direction in the development of objectives, develop strategic plans, and implement procedures to obtain determined goals.
  • Maintain responsibility for financial management, including financial statements, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and all applicable tax laws.
  • Work with an outside CFO/Accounting agency on general ledger, bank reconciliation, and tax statements.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact with the company’s external payroll and timekeeping system.
  • Maintain regular communication with external payroll/timekeeping system representatives to ensure continued improvement of the system’s functions for business operations.
  • Evaluate, oversee, and communicate with third-party vendors related to the financial functions of the company.
  • Remain abreast of federal, state, and local laws and regulations that impact financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance. 
  • Ensure that all financial reporting is accurate and complies with established accounting procedures and policies.
  • Conduct research into compensation scales, recommending pay grade adjustments for staff to the Chief Operating Officer as necessary.
  • Provide oversight on the administration of the company’s 401(k) account. 
  • Provide oversight on the collaboration between the Finance department and the Human Resources department to ensure that payroll deductions for health insurance, 401(k) and other applicable benefits are administered according to federal and state regulations.
  • Prepare operational financial reports to present to the Chief Operating Officer and CFO on a regular basis.
  • Ensure the finance department maintains strict confidentiality regarding payroll data, employee, and client information. Ensure the company maintains compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong leadership and management qualities. Thorough knowledge of management principles and best practices.
  • Ability to thoroughly analyze, interpret and enforce federal, state, and local regulations, particularly laws that govern payroll, taxes, and employee benefits such as health insurance plans and 401(k) accounts.
  • Superior mathematical, data analysis and auditing skills.
  • Ability to exhibit extraordinary discretion, flexibility, and willingness to work closely with the company’s Chief Operating Officer and CFO.
  • Ability to make presentations on complex topics.
  • Ability to effectively train subordinate employees.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with superb attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent interpersonal, creative thinking and collaborative skills.
  • Excellent time management, prioritization, and organization skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong computer aptitude with expertise in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Quickbooks, and other computer programs.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to various software systems.
  • Superior attention to strict confidentiality standards.

Education and Experience:

  • BS/BA in accounting, finance, management, economics, business laws
  • A CPA certificate or other relevant qualification is a plus.
  • Five years or more of experience in accounting, management, auditing, and financial management. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Limited periods of standing, walking, reaching, stretching may be required.
  • Frequent communication verbally and electronically.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.

Other Requirements:

  • Must pass and maintain background clearance as defined by Oregon State Background Regulations.
