POSITION TITLE: Asylum Program Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Family Empowerment Program
REPORTS TO: Immigration Program Supervisor and Senior Director
STATUS/PAY: Non-exempt Regular, Full-Time (40 hrs/wk)

SUMMARY:

Refugee Women’s Alliance (ReWA) offers culturally and linguistically competent immigration services and intense social services and training opportunities for immigrant and refugee families. This position coordinates selected operations of the Immigration Department: plan and implement outreach strategy, prepare monthly reports, support case managers in decreasing barriers to refugee and immigrants in rebuilding their lives and, assure student files and case notes are properly maintained. Gather information from programs and submit timely reports to Housing and Immigration Program Supervisor and Senior Director for each immigration program. Provide support and logistics for workshops. This position works to supports immigrant and refugee families, mostly living under the poverty line in Seattle and South King County, rise out of poverty and become self-sufficient through and hold a secure immigration status. Successful candidates for this position are result-oriented; and will have a strong understanding of the unique challenges and needs that immigrant and refugee families face for successfully rebuilding their lives in the United States; possess knowledge of the immigration market and have exceptional communication skills.

This position connects families to permanent rental housing, utility, and financial assistance services to build toward self-stability. This position will support asylum seeking vulnerable families living in the Riverton Church encampment or on the streets and who are homeless and will work with participants to find employment to help each participant gain employment to get on their feet and stabilize. The housing case manager will provide a variety of assistance, including rental assistance, affordable housing relocation and stabilization services. This position will work with staff attorney and work with households who are in the court process to have case dismissed and/or asylum filed to secure immigration status here in the U.S. This position will assist households in applying for work authorization when necessary.

Program Coordinator Responsibilities:

  • Collects and records all immigration services provided in the prior month into ReWA Database/Spreadsheets for tracking and billing purposes.
  • Assist Immigration Senior Program Coordinator to assure clients services and information are properly reported ReWA database.
  • Assist Immigration Senior Program Coordinator to screen and determine eligibility for walk-I, calls and referral clients.
  • Compile and submit monthly and quarterly services reports to the Program Supervisors to submit to Senior Director Family Empowerment.
  • Co-Lead with Immigration Program Supervisor and Immigration Attorney Asylum Seeker immigration clinics with implementation of logistics of virtual and in-person and attendance day of for in-person clinics
  • With the Immigration Program Supervisor provides coordination and training for volunteers when needed.
  • Provides quality review maintaining appropriate data and filing system.
  • Processing incoming Asylum Seeker calls, emails and mail connecting to appropriate case managers
  • Assist Program Supervisors in setting up staff meetings.
  • Attend ReWA committee meeting, staff meetings, and program meetings.
  • Other duties assigned by Program Supervisors/ Senior Director Family Empowerment.

Social Service and Immigration Case Manager Responsibilities:

  • Work with households to schedule and conduct screenings to determine eligibility for program. And hold a small case load of Asylum Seeker households.
  • Work with Staff Attorney to develop a written detailed and compelling declaration of the individual’s story and to collect evidence of persecution.
  • Under the supervision of staff attorney, assist clients in completing applications and any other forms of documentation needed to support the individual’s asylee applications(s).
  • Keep clients informed, via phone or in person, of the status of their application, after it has been submitted.
  • If USCIS issues a Request for Evidence in individuals’ case, the Case Manager and client will work closely with the Immigration Staff Attorney to prepare an appropriate and timely response.
  • Develop clearly written individualized service and/or family service plans based on the assessments that include income calculations and referrals to ESL and other services, as appropriate. Assist in developing referral list and connections to appropriate providers and resources to resolve participants barriers for them to be ready for employment.
  • Assist participants with employment application, job search, resume preparation, and job interviews and support participants with their financial management working towards family self sufficiency.
  • Complete credit card/check request form and submit it to program manager along with required supporting documents including intake form, immigration documents, DSHS documents, lease, W-9, income verification docs.
  • Review and process client’s direct client assistance package and submit to Housing Supervisor/or Senior Director approval.
  • Coordinate participants move-in activities such as visual unit inspection and procuring of move-in documents to submit to Housing Supervisor and landlord.
  • Assist with establishing a collaborative partnership between private and public property managers.
  • Utilizes participant feedback to enhance and/or maintain quality services for the housing programs in ReWA.
  • Input all data into SharePoint to track all asylum seeker data. Keep files up to date for monitoring visits.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by Senior Housing Coordinator and Senior Director of Family Empowerment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • AA in Human Services or Immigration field and two years professional experience in human services or immigration field.
  • Proven ability to provide high-quality tracking and reporting system.
  • This position requires excellent customer service.
  • Strong verbal and written English skills.
  • Bilingual in Lingala, French, Portuguese, Spanish preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including knowledge of database, word processing and e-mail programs.
  • Knowledge of welfare system, local market trends, and immigration services.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Respect for others’ experiences, opinions, language, values, culture, and knowledge.
  • Commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
  • Become DOJ partially accredited within 6 months of hire
  • WA state driver’s license and vehicle insurance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BA in Human Services or Immigration field and two years professional experience in human services or immigration field.
  • Experience working with Asylum Seekers and Asylee Applications
