SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS
- Operate/tend heating equipment to dry lumber and provide mill security and fire watch.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Set-up, operate and PM machine center in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures
- Press and adjust controls in order to activate, set, and regulate equipment according to specifications
- Monitor equipment operation, gauges, and panel lights in order to detect deviations from standards
- Confer with supervisors or other equipment operators in order to report equipment malfunctions or to resolve production problems
- Clean, lubricate, and adjust equipment as necessary
- Transport materials and products to and from work areas, manually or using carts, hand trucks, or hoists
- Stop equipment and clear blockages or jams
- Participate in action planning process
- Perform basic maintenance as required
- Clean workstation and surrounding areas making sure it is clean and free of debris
- All other duties assigned by supervisor
- Assist other operators as necessary
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
- Report to Yard Supervisor
- Kiln Operator-O3 and Security (Kiln Trainee)-O2
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Understand and follow oral or written instructions issued by supervisors
- Ability to exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time
- Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and/or legs
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed
- Ability to watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure a machine is working properly
- Ability to work well as part of a team
- Ability to complete daily reports as required
- Understand basic mathematical skills
- Understand basic machine components and operation
- Excellent eye-hand-foot coordination
- Solid decision-making skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Perform tasks such as walking, climbing, or standing for long periods of time.
- Able to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and/or legs.
- Ability to exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time
- Ability to work outside in all conditions.
- Must be comfortable working around loud equipment.
- Able to work while in a harness at heights over 4 feet.
- Able to lift 50 lbs throughout work shift
SAFETY
- Follow all area/machine center specific safety regulations
- Wear all required personal protective equipment: hardhat, safety glasses, hearing protection, etc…as required
- Do not enter restricted areas
- Report immediately to supervisor any piece of equipment that is unsafe or functioning improperly
- Request assistance when a task exceeds individual knowledge
- Visually inspect equipment and area before starting/operating
- Whenever possible, eliminate unsafe conditions as soon as possible
- Use Standard Lockout Procedures when appropriate for machine centers
- Use proper lifting technique by pushing, pulling and lifting with your legs and not your back
- Never approach a saw while it is still running
- Follow all other safety regulations as set forth by the company
