Primary Job Function:

The Reynoldsburg City Schools Director of Athletics provides leadership in the development, organization, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the athletic programs. The RCS Athletic Director is responsible for providing the vision for the District’s Athletic program as well as building trusting relationships between staff, students, parents and community members.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Five (5) years’ experience in teaching, administration or management
  • Five (5) years’ experience in coaching or related experience working with scholastic athletic programs
  • Ability to work prolonged, irregular hours; on weekends and other various times during the day/week
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle license

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters’ degree
  • Ohio Administrative license or willingness to obtain

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Primary functions may include the following duties, responsibilities, skills, abilities, and other characteristics. Leadership

  • Coaching / Athletic Staff
    • Interview, select and coordinate the personnel recommendations for the various paid/volunteer coaching positions for each sports season
    • Ensure all coaches and volunteers are appropriately certified (licensure and CPR/First Aid)
      • Arrange training for coaches as mandated by the OHSAA 
      • Serve as a resource for the coaching staff
    • Supervise and evaluate each board approved coach in his/her respective assignment upon completion of the sport season
    • Work proactively and cooperatively with the work of the athletic trainer(s) to ensure that injured student athletes are properly cared for and sufficiently rehabilitated prior to resuming athletic activities
    • Supervise the work of the Assistant Athletic Director, Site Managers, and other school event workers to ensure all practices and contests are scheduled and run effectively
    • Monitor coaches to ensure grade checks, and other academic interventions are completed 
  • Student Athletes
  • Encourage students’ participation in athletics as part of a well-rounded education
  • Monitor and manage student athletic eligibility in accordance with OHSAA regulations and District athletic rules/handbook
  • Validate that all student athletes have a current and appropriate physical exam as required by OHSAA
  • Accurately and effectively administer any disciplinary sanctions placed upon student athletes in accordance with the district’s Code of Conduct and Athletic Code of Conduct.
  • Recognize and acknowledge (formally and informally) team and individual student accomplishments related to athletics

 

  • Program Implementation, Facilities and Transportation
    • Provide equitable support for all athletic programs
      • Monitor Title IX requirements
    • Prepare a master calendar for all interscholastic sporting events that includes both conference and non-conference games and events
      • Coordinate the District’s master calendar with other school programs and community groups that use District facilities (i.e. FMX)
    • Collaborate closely with and support the high school principals and the junior high/middle school principals in their supervision of OHSAA-sanctioned athletic programs
    • Collaborate with the junior high/middle school principals to ensure all the needs of student-athletes are met; including Club Sports recognized by the District
    • Work with district administrators and staff, city and other community officials in the support of strong, sustainable youth athletic programs within the city of Reynoldsburg.
    • Collaborate with the Facilities & Grounds personnel to coordinate schedules to ensure custodial coverage and to report issues with fields, courts, and grounds
    • Collaborate with district administrators to schedule athletic events, required transportation and overnight accommodations (when necessary) for student athletes and in alignment with board policies
    • Support tournaments or special events sponsored by OHSAA, Reynoldsburg Athletic Boosters or other community-based organizations through collaboration and communication
    • Maintain records of all athletic contests and individual student athlete letter recipients and monitor statistics
    • Serve as the administrator in charge of facility usage in the evenings and on weekends related athletic contests and practices; work with Grounds personnel to inspect the conditions of all playing fields, gymnasiums and athletic sites on a regular basis to ensure they are safe and properly maintained
    • Coordinate the cleaning, reconditioning and safe storage of all equipment, supplies, uniforms and materials used in athletic programs and manage the issuance/return of same with coaching and/or advisory staff
  • Community Relations & Special Events
    • Plan athletic recognition events: fall, winter and spring recognition school assemblies and awards programs; order and distribute awards, letters and trophies to coaches
    • Attend Boosters meetings and support booster-sponsored activities and fundraisers
    • Foster cooperative working relationship with community and recreational athletic programs and coordinate the shared use of school-owned athletic facilities in alignment with board policies and procedures
  • Budget & Financial Oversight
    • Prepare and administer the district athletic budget
    • Process all financial transactions and accounting procedures involving the athletic budget and deposits from gate receipts in a timely manner
    • Record inventory of all team equipment and uniforms assuring return, replacement and purchases are on a rotation for equity
    • Collaborate with head coaches and principals in developing, proposing and implementing fund raising activities and provide support of athletic booster fundraising activities

 

Communication and Support

  • Conduct parent meetings, code of conduct meetings, coaches’ meetings and player leadership meetings
  • Coordinate personnel and communications to promote student academic progress, achievement and post high school educational opportunities
  • Assure student awareness of NCAA standards and testing opportunities
  • Mediate the resolution of problems, issues and concerns that may arise between coaches and athletic programs, as well as assist with boosters
  • Provide a channel through which students and the community may express their concerns about an athletic program
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement
  • Continuously work to develop good public relations in the school and community
  • Support the Athletic Booster Clubs
  • Oversee and participate in the preparation and distribution of promotional and informational materials and correspondence using multiple channels including the school’s website, Twitter, Facebook, etc.
  • Represent the school and its athletic programs at meetings outside the district

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend athletic activities and coordinate attendance with principals and central office administrators
  • Represent the District at state, national and local meetings involving athletics
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations regarding school district athletic programs, safety and health, and other areas (RCS, OHSAA, NCAA, NAIA)

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

  • Physical Demands – While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others. The employee is required to sit or stand and move around for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job the employee must be able to push, pull, lift and carry over 25 pounds on occasion.
  • Working Conditions – The employee in this position may experience occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue. The employee may also be required to interact with unruly children.
  • Driving Requirement – This position may require driving.
