Primary Job Function:

A Reynoldsburg City Schools’ Principal serves as the instructional and operational leader of the school. A RCS Principal provides a clear vision for learning for all students; ensures a safe, secure, and orderly learning environment; and cultivates strong relationships with and acts in service to diverse stakeholders, including families and school communities. A RCS Principal is expected to promote high-quality instructional practices that align to the District’s Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan; passionately enjoy working with children; and believe that all students can achieve.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Five (5) years’ experience in teaching or education field
  • Valid Ohio Principal’s license
  • Valid Ohio teaching certificate

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three to Five (3-5) years’ experience in administration
  • Experience with teacher evaluations

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Primary functions may include the following duties, responsibilities, skills, abilities, and other characteristics.   • Instructional management
    • Develop, articulate, steward, and operationalize a clear vision for learning for all students.
    • Lead a school focused on driving excellence, executing with urgency and realizing significant and meaningful achievement for all students.
    • Monitor instructional processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes and use findings to take corrective actions.
    • Promote high-quality instructional practices that consistently allow for excellent instruction school-wide.
    • Develop, implement, and manage all school systems, schedules, structures, and operations.
    • Promote the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.
    • Support the District’s deeper learning work with enthusiasm. 
  • School Organizational Climate
    • Foster a reflective, collaborative, and inspiring culture for students, families, staff members and community partners that values innovation, accountability and performance.
    • Create an environment that fosters social justice, equity, and supports the needs of each child .
    • Establish programs and activities designed to foster positive relationships among students and between students and staff.
    • Manage a school focused on driving excellence, executing with urgency, and realizing significant and meaningful achievement for all students.
  • School/Organizational Improvement
    • Develop campus improvement plans with staff, parents and community members.
    • Develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain and track records of progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
    • Develop a communication plan for students and staff.
    • Work with community and other agencies on issues that relate to schools and/or students’ welfare in the school or in the community.
    • Develop and implement accountability practices to evaluate school effectiveness and to make strategic decisions that ensure that results are ever improving.
  • Personnel Management
    • Evaluate certified staff through the use of the OTES/OPES model of evaluation.
    • Evaluate classified staff in conjunction with the Director of Operations and Services.
    • Provide professional development to the staff. 
  • Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
    • Develop class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
    • Work with department heads and faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
    • Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; check inventory; maintain records; and verify receipts for materials.
    • Provide assistance in evaluating the condition of the school, grounds, and equipment.
    • Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.
    • Assist in the coordination of transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services. 
  • Student Management
    • Establish and enforce regulations for student behavior.
    • Encourage and support the development of extra and co-curricular activities.
    • Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed, and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
    • Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
    • Develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior. 
  • School/Community Relations
    • Meet with parent school councils and other school support groups.
    • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
    • Articulate the school’s mission to community and solicit its support in realizing that mission.

  • Knowledge of RCS policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of policies & programs that would impact the ability to design strategies that support specific needs of the school.

  • Ability to customize mentoring to teacher’s learning and development needs  .
  • Ability to work effectively, cooperatively and respectfully with others.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and timelines successfully.
  • Ability to handle adversity in an objective manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with varied audiences using multiple mediums.
  • Ability to manage competing demands and determine top priorities.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and use sound judgment, including appropriate handling of confidential matters. 

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

  • Physical Demands – While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others. The employee is required to sit or stand and move around for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job the employee must be able to push, pull, lift and carry over 25 pounds on occasion.
  • Working Conditions – The employee in this position may experience occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue. The employee may also be required to interact with unruly children.
  • Driving Requirement – This position may require driving.
