What are the responsibilities and job description for the Actuary, Corporate Modeling position at RGA?
The Actuary, Corporate Modeling will contribute to a wide range of enterprise-wide modeling initiatives, including embedded value, economic and required capital, earnings volatility, own risk and solvency assessment, and short-term financial planning. It involves extensive interaction with other RGA departments and offices to ensure that work products are accurate, reliable, and completed in a timely fashion. This is an opportunity to learn about the risk management framework and develop knowledge of the wide variety of products and markets in the global portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise with respect to initiatives including economic capital, embedded value, Own Risk and Solvency Assessment scenario analysis, earnings volatility, and financial planning
- Serve as a flexible resource contributing to initiatives as needed
- Work to ensure that all lines of business and company risks have been modeled in a reasonable, accurate, and repeatable manner
- Aid business segments with respect to validating and managing their projection data and projection models
- Work to enhance the Company’s projection and planning infrastructure
- Develop and execute project plans to meet department goals
- Contribute to special projects as requested by senior management
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance and perform other duties as required
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Finance, Statistics or a related field
- FSA accreditation
- 7 years of actuarial experience in the life insurance industry
- Advanced ability to investigate, analyze and solve complex problems and issues
- Advanced actuarial technical skills including an ability to develop analytics to detect and explain sources of variation from expectations in terms of key drivers
- Advanced knowledge of life, health, and annuity products
- Advanced ability to model various insurance products and reinsurance structures
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP, Statutory, and Tax valuation and financial reporting
- Advanced PC skills and understanding of actuarial systems – including spreadsheets, databases, and actuarial projection tools
- Advanced project management skills, demonstrating an ability to leverage various resources and tools to reach a common goal
- Ability to influence large global team to work together in delivering results
- Ability to work well both independently and within a team environment
- Ability to simultaneously contribute to multiple projects while meeting deadlines
- Advanced ability to adapt to new methods
- Ability to foster a teamwork and customer service focused environment
- Advanced oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey complex ideas in a way that is understandable to all stakeholders
- Advanced interpersonal skills, demonstrating the ability to work effectively with different disciplines, including pricing, valuation, investments, accounting and IT
Preferred:
- Prior experience with and ability to program in Prophet, VBA and SQL
- Reinsurance industry and product knowledge
- In depth understanding of embedded value methodologies, economic capital modeling, and local regulatory frameworks
- Familiarity with life insurance company financial statements
- CERA and MAAA accreditation
- Economic capital experience
- Reinsurance experience
- Experience with embedded value and Solvency II reporting
