What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Accounting Analyst position at RGA?
Under limited supervision, analyzes, reconciles, compiles and coordinates monthly/quarterly financial data and results based on a US GAAP and Statutory basis and prepares financial reports for the business unit, area, or function. Provides explanations of financial results and analysis of results to plan. Ensures accurate, reliable and timely financial and management reporting.
Responsibilities
- Performs month-end financial reporting functions, which may include any or all of the following:
- preparation of general ledger uploads; reconciling various ledger accounts
- updating, reconciling and recording financial results
- analysis, compiling and reporting of data based on a US GAAP and Statutory basis
- reconciliation of various accounts
- Performs monthly administration tasks which include settlement processing, confirmation of supporting data, treaty compliance, documentation, recording and reconciling information to the general ledger as applicable
- Identifies, researches, and reports on differences between actual and expected financial results for assigned deals.
- Assists with set-up activities/processes for new deals, including updating various accounting systems.
- Works and collaborates with other functional and corporate areas in RGA to achieve accuracy, efficiency, and effective accounting practices and procedures and responds to requests from other functional areas on various inquiries.
- Assists with report development and/or updates; addresses financial reporting related questions raised by business unit, area, or function.
- Shares technical expertise with others; recommends process improvements, provides functional advice and/or training as needed.
- Serves as liaison to other business units, areas and functions as needed.
- Maintains SOX documentation and provides as needed; may assist with year-end audit and other internal audits as needed.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent related work experience
- 5-8 years accounting, auditing, actuarial, or insurance administration experience with GAAP reporting and general ledger application experience
Preferred:
- Progress towards CPA
- Progress towards FLMI
- PeopleSoft or other accounting software applications experience and Tableau experience
- Insurance/Reinsurance financial reporting experience
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Basic Word, advanced Excel and intermediate SQL/Query and database management skills
- Ability to perform accounting analysis and provide written explanations of actual results to plan
