What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vice President Education and Training position at RGA?
Act as US Facultative and industry subject matter expert on underwriting education, training and critical thinking for both internal and external clients. Serve as part of the US Facultative Underwriting Department as a subject matter expert on a variety of topics including but not limited to: underwriting practices and variations, underwriting and new business technology, underwriting risk management and risk assessment.
Responsibilities
- Develops, leads and implements US Facultative Underwriting Department’s education programs for the profession of life underwriting. This includes internal and external (client facing) training programs. Training encompasses all aspects including: identification of training department resource/tool needs, analysis of training needs and requirements, course structure, development of training materials, delivery of training, long term training plans and follow-up evaluations. Internal training collaboration and coordination with leadership team to ensure training is encompassing philosophy changes and updates as needed.
- Leads, manages and develops junior staff and new hire underwriters. Ensures compliance with RGA Re philosophy, procedures and guidelines, and provides evaluation of underwriting quality and consistency.
- Develop presentations, white papers, and other educational documentation as needed. Maintain a library of presentation and slides on a variety of underwriting related topic areas related to underwriting assessment, the future of underwriting, underwriting innovation, education, insurance fraud, critical thinking and other pertinent topics as may arise.
- Provide the unique combination of product knowledge, risk assessment expertise and the rules application necessary to produce expected mortality results for RGA and client companies.
- Act as underwriting liaison to various RGA departments and teams within functional specialty and develop strong relationships within the industry to enhance research, innovation and education opportunities.
- Support client relationships by providing underwriting solutions through collaboration to identify unique, creative ways to solve their problems and improve their business results; effectively communicating, negotiating and selling underwriting decisions.
- Performs data analysis for clients, senior underwriting management, sales/marketing and actuarial departments by summarizing data resulting in meaningful reports, comparison grids, scorecards and result reports.
- Keeps abreast of and monitors industry trends including: client company special underwriting programs, requirements guidelines and preferred guidelines, and key underwriting and new business related vendor relationships across global enterprise.
- Performs management duties, including but not limited to hiring, training, evaluating, mentoring, coaching and disciplining direct reports. Fosters a positive and engaged work environment.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent related work experience (minimum 8 years)
- 10 years reinsurance underwriting experience or 15 years direct underwriting experience
- BS/BA Science or Business
- ACS, ALU, FLMI, FALU, or CLU accreditation or progress towards accreditation
- 15 years reinsurance underwriting experience

- Intermediate Word, SQL/Query and Excel skills

State of Colorado: This information is provided per the Colorado Equal Pay Act. The pay range for this position in Colorado is $140k-$188k base per year. Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location. In addition, RGA compensation includes an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and maintains a full range of competitive health and life insurance, retirement, and other employee benefits.
