In 1979, the Rhode Island Blood Center was established by the hospitals in Rhode Island as a private, not for profit agency to collect, test, and distribute blood products. Today, the Rhode Blood Center is a division of New York Blood Center and is among the nation's premium providers of blood products and services and an integral part of the Rhode Island community's health care system. As of December 2018, the Rhode Island Blood Center employs approximately 320 full- and part-time employees. This position is responsible for providing support in the laboratory. Responsibilities include testing setup, quality control procedures and the execution of testing that is not covered by CLIA regulations and general clerical work.
This position reports to the designated Laboratory Supervisor.
Immunohematology Reference Laboratory Intern• Assist in data entry• Instrument Maintenance/Quality Control Procedures• Order/Receive supplies• Receive product orders and fill with assistance from IRL staff• Assistance with physical product inventory
Donor Testing Laboratory Intern• Assist in Equipment Maintenance procedures• Receive and prepare samples for testing• Cleaning laboratory space/equipment• Receive Reagents
Component Laboratory Intern• Assist in platelet product managemento Product counts on Hematology instrumento Perform product qualification o Assist in bacterial contamination testing and pathogen reduction• Label products after lot release• Assist in Blood Product QC procedures • Assist in component preparation

Currently enrolled in approved MLS/CLS, Biotechnology or other Biological or Chemical Bachelor's degree training program.
Must be a student in good standing with no academic or disciplinary probation as determined by each college.
The hiring range for this position is: $13.00-$15.00 per hour.
