Position Overview

Primary Purpose

The Programming Coordinator is a vital member of campus life and contributes to the development of a vibrant co-curricular life with a particular focus on evening and weekend programming.

Essential Duties

Contribution to major campus events including Thank RIC it’s Friday series, Family Weekends, WinterFest, Spring Fling, Move In Weekend, Welcome Week Series, Welcome Back Series, RIC End, Late Night Breakfasts, Thanksgiving Community Dinner, Student Involvement Fairs, Student Leadership Awards.

o Lead and primary contact for Late Night Breakfasts, Thanksgiving Community Dinner, Winter Wonderland Community Dinner, RIC Community Block Party and Positively RIC! o Books all contracts for events, after convening with appropriate parties.

o Responsible for process and communication around set up and break down of events. Drafts run of show and walks team through it.

o Designs fliers and promotion for events, works with SA Marketing on this. o Maintains social media presence for events, as well as manages text platform.

o Submits purchasing requests for all events to Student Life admin assistant, after convening with appropriate parties.

Exercises judgment and discretion in providing mentorship and partnership to stipended organizations, including Student Community Government Executive Committee, RIC Programming Board, Residential Student Association, and Media Center organizations (Anchor Newspaper, Anchor TV, WXIN).

o Support organizations with program development and implementation. o Serve as point of contact for supporting to book space, process contracts, and work with service providers.

o Meet on a regular basis with organizations to provide guidance and problem solve upcoming events. o Manage volunteers and student employees to support set up and break down of events.

o Work with stipended orgs on major events that position is responsible for (Late Night Breakfasts, Thanksgiving Community Dinner, Wonderland Community Dinner, RIC Community Block Party and Positively RIC!)

  • Serve as the advisor and mentor for the RIC Programming Board.
  • Create and maintain new and existing traditions / competitions on campus for students to engage in fun ways and feel school pride, some examples include Where in the RIC is Gerald and RIC Cash Cab.
  • Lead efforts around weekend and evening programming, planning and delivering engaging experiences, compiling programs from other offices and putting all offerings in a Weekend Warrior calendar.

Offer two RICTrips a semester, past trips have included Apple Picking, Salem Halloween, Newport, King Arthurs Fair, Musicals, etc.

  • Lead Café series for Anchors First and beyond.
  • Oversight of Student Activities Marketing team, including hiring, direction, mentorship, and budget. Work closely with team on marketing and promotion of all events / programs, how best to assist student organization marketing, and social media maintenance.

Ensure posters in Student Union and Bridge are up to date and relevant.

  • Manage marketing and text platform for communicating to students, taking polls, and offering incentives.
  • Organize and lead Alternative Spring Break and volunteer opportunities throughout the year.
  • Coordinate atmosphere for Orientations, Accepted Students Day, and Grad Fest.
  • Coordinate volunteers for large scale college wide initiatives.
  • Lead civic engagement and public service programs such as voter registration drives, mutual aid campaigns, debate opportunities, service challenges, earth day celebrations, etc.
  • Lead and design emerging leaders’ program for first- and second-year students that serves as pipeline into other leadership opportunities on campus.
  • Workhours fall between Tuesday-Saturday and account for evening programming, hours can flex depending on event scheduling : o Tuesday -Thursday 10am 6pm o Friday -Saturday 1pm 9pm

Occasional Duties

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Associate Dean of Students / Dean of Students
  • Participate in all-team meetings and retreats
  • When applicable represent the college by presenting at conferences, participating in community functions, and seeking out publication opportunities

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Knowledge in issues related to the Student Affairs, Student Activities, and fraternity and sorority life profession.
  • Excellent organization and planning skills to implement multiple, concurrent projects.
  • Competence in utilizing various technology applications, electronic communication, word processing, and other related functions.
  • Ability to work flexible evening and weekend hours.

Required Qualifications

Education : Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in student personnel / higher education administration or a related field.

Experience : 1-3 years of successful experience in a college or university setting such as might be gained in student activities, residence halls, or as a Student Affairs generalist.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in student personnel / higher education administration or a related field.
  • Two years’ professional experience in a college or university setting in work involving college fraternity and sorority life, leadership programs, civic engagement, student unions, student activities or related field.
  • Bilingual
