The Role: Driving Profitable Results As an Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Production Underwriting, you'll be based in California and play a pivotal role in our success. Here's what the role entails: Team Leadership: You'll lead our production underwriting team, ensuring they deliver exceptional results. Profitability Focus: Your oversight of underwriting activities will drive profitability. Strong Relationships: Building and maintaining strong broker relationships will be a key aspect of your role. Reporting Structure: You'll report directly to our Senior Vice President of Underwriting Operations. Goals: Your goal? Achieving high renewal retention and driving new business profitably. Key Responsibilities The key responsibilities of the position are as follows: Accountable for the risk selection/rejection, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability decisions made by the production underwriting team Empowers employees to use independent judgment and initiative to support business goals Ensures business is priced in accordance with company guidelines Assesses risk quality and compliance with company guidelines and initiates appropriate loss prevention activities Ensures that effective business relations with internal and external customers/coworkers are developed and maintained in order to attract and retain profitable business Ensures adequate numbers of visits are conducted with agents, brokers, and producers to retain existing accounts, build and maintain business relationships, and develop new opportunities Ensures the provision of excellent customer service Responsible for the performance and coaching of staff and decisions regarding talent selection, development and performance management Drives underwriting excellence through a high level of engagement Candidate Experience and Characteristics The ideal candidate will possess the following key competencies and characteristics: Industry Experience Generally, 10 years of workers’ compensation underwriting experience including a minimum of 5 years of California-specific experience Technically proficient in the nuances of workers’ compensation insurance Proven career track record of success Leadership Skills Experience managing employees (7 years preferred) to achieve successful business outcomes Ability to attract and develop underwriting talent Willingness to delegate responsibility and authority Ability to manage and develop talent Personal Attributes Highest integrity Excellent communication skills Demonstrated high-level of initiative and self-discipline Results-driven; holds oneself and others accountable Builds relationships and trust, balancing the needs of team members with business results Builds high enthusiasm and motivation Develops team members; provides honest, timely feedback, coaching, and career development opportunities Education Bachelor’s degree in Business, Liberal Arts, or related discipline preferred Compensation and Benefits Republic offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including: Base salary range: $190,000 - $230,000 Eligibility to participate in discretionary bonus plan Benefits: Health, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability, Wellness, Paid Time Off, Retirement & Savings Plan, Discounted Stock Purchase Plan Republic Indemnity.
