Our Ophthalmology practice specializes in Glaucoma and Cataracts. We are currently looking for a full-time Ophthalmic Technician. Certification is a plus. Our ophthalmic technician will serve as the ophthalmologist-extender that help us fulfill our mission to provide the very best care and experience for our patients.

The ophthalmic technician assists the physician in patient care. Responsibilities include:

  • Obtaining basic medical history information
  • Measuring each patient's visual acuity
  • Administering a wide array of diagnostic tests to determine the structure and function of each patient's eye. (This includes proficiency in performing A-Scans, fundus photos, nerve fiber analysis, and fluorescein angiography.)
  • Maintaining and cleaning all equipment being used.
  • Preparing patient medical records, working with patient medical insurance plans, completing financial transactions and patient scheduling needs.

The ophthalmic technician must demonstrate the following qualities:

  • Ability to assess common safety hazards and take precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, co-workers, and supervisor.
  • Have a willingness to help in all areas of the practice and understand the need for efficient use of time.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Consistently work with multiple patients per hour.
  • Utilize proper eye drop technique.
  • Understand and use proper sterile technique.
  • Understand and use proper universal precaution procedures.
  • Understand and follows procedures for surgical and procedural consents.
  • Display consistent professionalism with patients, staff, and physicians.
  • Demonstrate initiative in accomplishing practice goals.
  • Maintains ophthalmic certification or willingness to work toward certification.
  • Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.

This position is best suited to someone who enjoys staying busy throughout the day, can multi-task and is detail-oriented.
