GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The role of the AVP of Accounting is to oversee accounting operations and manage the department activities in accordance with established Credit Union policies and procedures. Duties will be to supervise the staff, train employees, monitor work progress and report to the CFO and President/CEO about operations. Act as a source of leadership for the credit union.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Oversee daily transactions including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, corporate checks, and bank reconciliations.

· Manage cash held, monitor wires, and reconcile corporate accounts and bank statements.

· Prove loan, share, dividends, and GL accounts.

· Prepare monthly financial statements and closing books. Act as backup on Board Package preparation.

· Prepare month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing.

· Prepare all reports necessary for completion of board package and 5300 call report.

· Review and approve NCUA 5300 call report quarterly.

· Complete report of officials annually to NCUA.

· Assist in Supervisory Committee audit (quarterly), financial audit (annually) and NCUA exam.

· Prepare Annual Meeting booklets.

· Handle investment purchases, accruals, income, and recordkeeping.

· Post and reconcile loan participations.

· Oversee dormant account process in accordance with regulations, over and short process, and report to Supervisory Committee.

· Monitor, train and evaluate the performance of accounting staff.

· Review, recommend, and improve department procedures and strategies.

· Continuously monitor expenses and seek ways to lower costs or reduce waste.

· Train non-accounting staff in areas related to accounting.

· Organize accounting activities - subsidiary records, paper document filing and electronic records.

· Backup all positions in the department when others are not present.

· Work with other departments to facilitate high-level member service.

· Maintain adequate reporting and statistical analysis.

· Knowledge of ALM and software system used to generate ALM reporting.

· Knowledge of eServices and in relation to accounting.

· Perform other functions when assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and financial accounting standards

Knowledge of Teller, Member Service and Lending operations in relation to accounting

Knowledge of Credit Union operations, principles, and practices

Knowledge of core system, MS Office, and other credit union systems in relation to accounting

Knowledge of web-based technology and computers

Knowledge of the Credit/Debit processing systems

Knowledge of Credit Union products and services

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of five years of experience in accounting management, preferably in a credit union or other financial service institution.

EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION

College degree, bachelor’s in accounting or finance required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Professional appearance, dress, and attitude.

High Level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Proficiency in mathematical calculations.

Ability to operate related computer applications and other business equipment including adding machine, copy machine, telephone, computer, and printer/scanner.

Advanced computer skills with proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to travel to any of the branch locations at any time for any reason on a temporary or permanent basis.

Team management and leadership skills.

Ability to work accurately and independently under specific time constraints with the ability to perform detailed work.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $65,000.00 per year
