RieLes Group, LLC is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic Medical Assistant to join our team!!! The position is located at the Health Services Department at the FCD in Houston, TX. The Medical Assistant in this position will receive an attractive compensation package inclusive of competitive hourly pay, paid time off, health insurance and other benefits.
Position Description:
The Medical Assistant shall be capable of performing any and all Medical Assistant procedures needed without any technical support. The person in this position must have the ability to work with an inmate population from a variety of cultural, regional, racial, and ethnic backgrounds. Responsibilities include but shall not be limited to:
- Providing nursing care to include, taking & recording patient history, vital signs, making appointments, assisting PAs & physicians in clinical activities
- Performing venipuncture from patients for analysis or other medical purposes when necessary
- Collecting and processing urinalysis
- Operation of EKG machine, and other special medical apparatus and equipment within the HSU
- Will assist PAs and visiting clinical specialty consultants in the management and coordination of patient flow through the chronic care clinic, Preventive Health Care clinics, and general clinics when scheduled. Will provide assistance entering data for pap smears. Will assist in keeping a current paps roster for the providers
- Will assist the provider in the urgent care room when necessary
- General nursing duties
- Maintaining supplies in all exam rooms
- Screening eye exams and assisting physicians and mid-level practitioners in minor surgical cases
- Maintaining daily sick call list and placing inmates on call-out as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in a clinical or any medical facility requiring experience for communication and skill factors involving medical terminology, forms, reports, etc.
- Must have at least six (6) months of course credit and a satisfied internship
- Must be CPR certified in the event of respiratory or cardiopulmonary arrest
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and healthcare providers
- The individual performing the services must be able to type, file, do basic math, and work on a computer, along with the ability to read, understand, fluently speak, and legibly write English
- Shall have a basic understanding of human anatomy and physiology, and understand medical terminology
- Must be a US Citizen
