Job Overview

The Business Consultant & Coach is part of the Rightworks Academy Education team and reports to the Manager of Education. The Coach’s primary role is to learn Academy core principles and empower Academy members to improve their firms through coaching. Our Coaches hold member firms accountable to completing the firm’s projects and goals.

Experience working in public accounting as a tax preparer, staff accountant, outsourced CFO, partner or owner is highly sought after for this role as these experiences are directly transferrable to the role of Business Coach.

The Coach demonstrates the following abilities:

  • Building relationships with member firms, including firm owners and key staff
  • Holding firms accountable to completing projects and accomplishing goals
  • Helps firms identify and address problem areas or opportunities for growth/change within the firm
  • Works well on their own and with a team
  • Has a positive attitude

Responsibilities

On a day-to-day basis, the business coach meets with accounting firm owners and staff in scheduled virtual group and one-on-one settings that last roughly one hour and recur regularly. The consultative coaching sessions hold firms accountable for progressing toward their goals, which range from strategic (growing revenue, shifting services lines, hiring and retaining staff, and so much more) to tactical implementation and technology solutions.

The Business Coach will also work with cross-functional teams and Education team members to develop educational materials that support our members' learning, goal development and achievement, as well as present to large groups in a virtual webinar or in-person setting on occasion.

  • Learn and start educating firms on Academy principles, including, but not limited to:
    • Firm management, including project management, billing, and financial metrics
    • Tax, Bookkeeping, and Payroll services
    • Culture
    • Client and staff management
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert on several Academy coaching topics
  • Assist in the design and delivery of virtual webinars
  • Contribute to maintaining existing resources and eventually identifying the need for and creating new resources, including lessons, detailed how-to guides, letters, forms, tools with guidance
  • Respond to support questions as they relate to strategic topics and workflow processes that make up our educational offerings
  • Enter notes from coaching calls in a timely fashion
  • Actively seek to know and understand Academy better practices
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Education

Requirements

  • Education level: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree is preferred
  • Experience: Absent a bachelor’s degree, a candidate for the position will have an associate's degree plus experience coaching small businesses, creating and delivering online training, and experience creating educational materials
  • Specific skills: Experience in the tax and accounting industry is a must; Experience with computer software or technology is required along with the ability to coach small business owners and staff in a strategic fashion
  • Personal characteristics that make a person successful in the role include: being a self- starter, the ability to work without constant supervision, not being afraid to ask questions, and the desire to help our customers to the best of our abilities
