About the role
We are looking for a Senior Advisor Training - Underground Operations to lead a RTK Underground Training System to safely and efficiently execute the operational requirements for Lower Commercial Skarns (LCS) and on-going mining at Kennecott Underground.
This role is a great opportunity to implement your training and leadership skills while focusing on safe operations and contributing to the overall plan to deliver LCS project objectives. Reporting to the Manager – Underground Operations, you will:
- Develop, implement, monitor and maintain the RTK Underground Training and Learning Management Systems, including training needs analysis, skill needs analysis, development of training plans and packages, inductions, records management, reporting, auditing and reporting.
- Develop an MSHA approved training plan in accordance with MSHA Part 48 regulations.
- Risk assesses, develop, and maintain Safe Working Procedures required for operation, ensuring all underground activities meet a risk profile acceptable to RTK.
- Mentor and develop the training team, demonstrating behaviours aligned with Rio Tinto values (Care, Courage and Curiosity), through direct engagement with Rio Tinto employees and contractors.
- Training of the underground, mine rescue teams in accordance with MSHA Part 49 regulations and Rio Tinto Underground Emergency Standards.
- Drive innovations to ensure that the operation maintains a global and industry best practice approach to Training and Development, including engaging RTO providers where necessary whilst ensuring training costs stay within budget.
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
- 10 years experience in metalliferous underground mining.
- 5 years in either a senior health & safety or safety related training role.
- A sound understanding of the training and documentation requirements in accordance with MSHA Part 48 regulations.
- Demonstrated experience in the establishment and maintenance of Training & Learning Management Systems and effective training program delivery and assessment.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship building skills at all levels with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Computer proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in coaching/consulting with leaders in a professional environment
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- A Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Training and Development or similar qualification.
- Experience with regulatory systems in the US, including MSHA federal agencies (e.g. MSHA, EPA, CFR, etc.)
- UG BlueCard (MSHA UG Instructor) or the ability to obtain within a short period of time
- MSHA underground mine rescue qualification.
