What are the responsibilities and job description for the ESOL Instructor Adult Education position at RIRAL?
For 40 years, Rhode Island Regional Adult Learning (RIRAL) has helped out-of-school youth and adults improve their reading, writing, and math skills to achieve a high school credential, proficiency in English, employment, better employment, and a career. RIRAL is currently seeking applications for a part-time ESL teacher.
The adult ESOL student enrolls in RIRAL’s courses to improve reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in order to achieve longer-term goals of finding or improving employment, obtaining a high school credential, or entering into occupational skills training or college.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Teach reading, writing, speaking, and listening
- Plan and prepare appropriate level lessons aligned with ESOL national standards
- Conduct ongoing formal and informal assessments to evaluate student progress
- Implement a variety of instructional delivery methods, materials, and techniques to help students achieve learning gains and goals, including technology
- Maintain an environment that is conducive to learning
- Counsel students regarding instruction and program services
- Participate in registration and post-testing
- Meet or exceed student skill level goals as set yearly by RIRAL and key funders
Initiative:
- This position requires the ability to make routine decisions regarding the everyday operation of the classes assigned
- Plans ahead for all assigned duties
- Updates knowledge on effective teaching through ongoing professional development
- Reacts appropriately to immediate and changing needs of students and supervisors/program
- Provides suggestions for improving program instruction and operating procedures
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of adult learner education methods, with the ability to apply these methods to adult and multi-cultural students
- Ability to build a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the interests of students
- Ability to relate well to a diverse population through a lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues individually and as a team
- Skilled in communication and organizational processes
- Proficient in the use of Google Products
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
Qualifications:
At least two years of teaching experience with adult learners preferred
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $24.00 - $26.00 per hour
