RISE CONSTRUCTION is a growing commercial general contractor located in the Houston Heights. Our project sizes are 50k to 10M. Our projects are mostly commercial. Safety, Quality, Integrity, and Relationships are our core values which we live by.
This position works with the Chief Estimator to assure that bids, proposals and cost estimates are completed in a timely and orderly manner. This position is available for a Project manager in a full service concrete company. Rise Construction performs concrete cutting, drilling, demo, and pour back work throughout the greater Houston area. An ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills, problem solving skills and experience in cost accounting to ensure the profitability of projects.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Estimating:
- Take off plans
- Generate proposals for customers
- Communicate with customers regarding proposals and potential work
- Request pricing from suppliers
- Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Maintains quality service by following organization processes.
- Participation in AGC membership
- Ensure successful close out and completion of all managed projects
- Prepare proposals for construction costs.
- Complete understanding of blueprint, specifications and scope of work
- Obtaining bids from qualified subcontractors
- Evaluates offers to purchase by costing changes, additions, and site requirements.
- Maintains cost keys and price masters by updating information.
Project Management:
- Coordinate with field supervisors to assign field employees to jobs daily
- Coordinate submittals, material orders, and job site deliveries with Purchasing
- Coordinate with Field employees to maintain job progress
- Provide change order proposals as needed
- Handle project paperwork (contracts, change orders, project-specific forms, etc.)
- Manage job costs by tracking spending
- Determine billable costs each month for each project
- Address issues with jobs and employees as they arise
- Meet periodically with Field Supervisor(s) to keep track of job progress and address problems
- Subcontractor relationships and evaluation of qualifications.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist in the pricing and bidding of construction projects, reviewing milestone documents to price alternative opportunities
- Participate in the internal estimate review process and assist with final assembly of estimate presentation for owner
- Participate in hard bid/estimating and GMP budgeting by evaluating bids and collecting/organizing information for future use
- Prepare contractual exhibits for scope of work for subcontracts, and direct information/documents to subcontractors
- Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors, vendors and clients, and represent McCarthy at industry events
- Perform quantity take-offs and and aid in change order pricing
- Communicate with architects and consultants to clarify scope of work, materials, and schedule requirements
- Implement all applicable safety and EEO/Affirmative Action programs on-site
Additional Job Details (We trust that as an Estimator you will):
- Create and manage material takeoffs for all floorplans
- Enter takeoffs and bids into Purchasing system (NewStar Enterprise)
- Assist with pricing and execution of Custom Options
- Assist with budgeting new floorplans and new community start-ups
- Assist the VP of Purchasing with special projects
- Write estimating standards to articulate the use of material takeoffs

About You:
- Experience in Estimating with estimating software in the homebuilding industry, either with a homebuilder or a Trade/Supplier is preferred
- Strong math skills needed
- Proficiency in Excel is REQUIRED
- Ability to read floor plans is REQUIRED
- Local candidates with familiarity to the geographical area are preferred
- 4 year degree is preferred, major in Construction Management or Finance is preferred
- The ability to prioritize and multitask in a hectic environment is required
- A positive attitude is a MUST.
