Rise High Curriculum Lead

Schenectady, NY Contractor
POSTED ON 5/13/2024

Rise High is a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) exposure program serving under-resourced middle and high school students in the Schenectady community with the desired outcome of overcoming barriers to academic, personal and wellness development. Students explore a variety of technical topics taught by local professionals through hands-on learning, inspiring students to consider careers in STEM. We work closely with our partners and volunteers to develop content that inspires and challenges students. We are seeking one, two or three individuals to serve as Curriculum Leads for the 10th, 11th and 12th grade cohorts. Rise High has existing instructional content for all three year groups, though some updating and evaluation will be necessary. We are seeking to fill these positions immediately to begin preparations for the Fall Semester.

Curriculum Lead Job Description:

This is a paid contractor position for Rise High. The Curriculum Lead is the primary interface for lesson development with volunteer instructors from the local area. The Curriculum Lead coaches instructors and develops lesson plans to support Saturday morning Rise High sessions. Additionally, the Curriculum Lead serves as a mentor to Classroom Managers who are often student teachers working in the classroom with students. Curriculum Leads are expected to be in attendance most Saturdays during Rise High, operating during the academic year from mid-September through November, and then mid-January through the end of April, possibly early May.

Curriculum Leads are responsible for the curriculum for one or more cohorts of Rise High. Contracts are set up on an annual basis with three payments throughout the year.

As a role that interacts directly with students, Curriculum Leads will be screened against criminal and sex-offender records. Background checks will be renewed on a yearly basis.

Qualification and Skills:

The ideal candidate will have a degree in STEM education and have experience teaching and working with diverse populations or with middle and high school students along with the following attributes:

● Confidence in interactions with students and adults in a classroom environment, on a field trip or in other educational settings and the ability to assume a leadership role if needed.

● Possess and exhibit culturally conscious approaches to working with students from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic means.

● Strong personal and professional skills: timeliness, dependability, and the ability to communicate with a wide range of professionals from multiple sectors, while fostering and promoting Rise High’s culture of respect, and healthy collaboration.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform 1-year ahead evaluations of already-developed curricula. Schedule commitments and coordinate reviews.
