LABORATORY TECHNICIAN
POSITION SUMMARY
Obtains or receives specimens, performs tests by standardized procedures, interprets results as to accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits in the following areas:
Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, and Microscopy.
Identifies direct causes of problems and makes corrections by using preset strategies. Performs quality control, preventive maintenance and participates in quality assurance programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collects, identifies, transports, and stores specimens for laboratory procedures when needed.
- Operates, calibrates, and maintains laboratory instruments: recognizes instrument malfunction and takes corrective action.
- Identifies unusual results: correlates laboratory data with clinical data according to present criteria and promptly notifies appropriate personnel as needed.
- Uses and monitors appropriate record systems, procedures, quality control, and preventive maintenance programs and inventory control protocols.
- Recognizes a problem, identifies the cause, and takes corrective action according with section supervisor or section director’s instructions.
- Instructs and supervises as directed.
- Establishes and maintains interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors, and group employees.
- Performs laboratory analysis and calculations and reports results of these tests according to standardized procedures in a timely fashion.
- Identifies unusual results: correlates laboratory data with clinical data according to preset criteria; promptly notifies caregivers of critical results.
- Operates, calibrates, and maintains laboratory instruments; recognizes instrument malfunction and takes corrective action.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; stand; and talk to hear. Employee regularly reaches with hands and arms. The employee periodically is required to lift and/or carry up to 50lbs. Occasionally, employee stoops, bends, kneels, and crouches; and pushes/pull wheeled carts. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to focus. Employee must be able to stand for long periods of time.

EDUCATION
- Masters Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science and one (1) year training/experience in high/moderate complexity testing:

- Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology or Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science and one (1) year training/experience in high/moderate complexity testing.
or
- Associate Degree in Clinical laboratory science or Medical Technology and two (2) years training/experience in high/moderate complexity testing:
