RMS is looking for the following position(s):

 Job Title: Sr/Modeler, Model Development

Location: Newark, CA

 Job Duties:

  • Development of wind vulnerability for computer-based catastrophe risk models for US, Europe, and other countries.
  • Assessment of building damageability and quantification of property damage and business interruption coverages.
  • Research into past and current design and construction practices in different regions of the world.
  • Provide technical support both internally to RMS’ staff and to (re)insurance clients.
  • Prepare presentations and reports for internal and external publications regarding technical aspects of model development.
  • Conduct studies of historical catastrophes, past environmental conditions, and atmospheric dynamics to identify and assess potential impacts on buildings and infrastructure.
  • Perform field surveys after major catastrophic events to identify damage mechanisms and improve loss estimation methodologies.

 Job Requirements

  • Candidate with Ph.D. or M.S. in Civil/Structural Engineering, Wind Engineering, Coastal Engineering or related fields
  • Experience with structural analysis & design, and familiarity with risk modeling concepts
  • Knowledge of Probability & Statistics
  • Proficiency with at least one of the following programming languages: R, Python, MATLAB
  • Detail-oriented with good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a fast-paced team environment
