Central Valley Post Acute is located in Riverbank, CA. We are looking for a dietary aide who specializes in preparing and cooking healthy meals for patient, clients, professional or organizations. A dietary cook assistant professional who is committed, caring, and reliable to join our dietary team for our Skilled Nursing Facility!

A dietary cook assistant helps and coordinate in cooking and preparing healthy meals for clients or organizations. It is their duty to follow nutritional plans and guidelines, adhere to portion and quality standards, support Dietary Cook Head, helps kitchen staff, and participate in delivering food to rooms. They also monitor the inventory of supplies, maintain the cleanliness of different areas, and keep dishes sanitized at all times. Moreover, a dietary cook assistant must coordinate and maintain an open communication line with fellow kitchen workers to ensure a safe and efficient workflow.

  • Assists in the preparation of foods in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, with our established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the Dietitian Cook Head and/or Director for Food Services, to assure that quality food service is provided at all times.

  • Assists with planning meals far enough ahead to minimize the need for food substitutions; when substitutions are necessary helps to serve food of equivalent nutritional value.

  • Assists in preparing meals and snacks in such a way that a minimum of nutrients are lost from foods, that ensure foods taste good and look appealing, and that there are ample amounts of foods for children to have as many servings as they need.

  • Helps to maintain established standards of sanitation, safety and food preparation and storage as set by the local and state health departments, including: storing foodstuffs and supplies in appropriate areas; washing dishes; cleaning refrigerators, stove, bins, cupboards and other kitchen equipment and utensils; and, sweeping and mopping kitchen floors.

  • Substitutes for the Cook in her/his absence.

  • With the guidance of the contracted Nutritionist, helps modify menus and recipes and prepare foods to meet the developmental needs of patients and the medical and feeding needs of patient with disabilities or food allergies.

  • Helps deliver foods from the kitchen to the classrooms ready to be served as suitable. Also, assists with preparing and packing foods.

  • Cooperates with and participates in nutrition education activities for staff, professionals and patients.

  • Participates in all emergency drills and environmental safety activities.

  • Attends and participates in grantee-sponsored trainings, center pre-service and in-service trainings, and other continuing education, career and professional development opportunities.

  • Participates in the agency's self-evaluation process and grantee monitoring visits and complies with any applicable Program Improvement Plans developed.

  • Participates in general staff meetings and other meetings and events planned by the grantee and delegate agency as requested.

  • Performs other duties, as assigned.


EDUCATION:

  • Must have High School Diploma or GED


EXPERIENCE:

  • 3 years of experience in food service arena, long-term care, or restaurant service REQUIRED

  • 2 years of experience in a geriatric or rehabilitative Nursing environment is PREFERRED

  • Experience with food preparation and nutrition

  • Attention to detail

  • Background in institutional kitchen equipment use

  • No more than 2 jobs in 1 year


CERTIFICATION:

  • Food Handler Certification PREFERRED


SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Must be able to cook a variety of foods in large quantities.

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

  • Must be well groomed, in clean and proper clothing, and practices good personal hygiene at all times.

  • Able to communicate clearly with managers, and other kitchen staff team members.

  • Able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 40 pounds.

  • Able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).

  • Understand and follow all safety and sanitation procedures.

  • Able to safely and accurately handle kitchen utensils and other portioning and food preparation utensils.
