The Riverside Transit Agency is recruiting to fill current openings for full-time Coach Operator.  This recruitment will also be used to develop an eligibility list.  This position operates the Agency's transit bus fleet and provides safe, dependable and courteous public transportation service for the citizens of the RTA Service area.

Please be advised that this may involve assignment at either our Riverside or Hemet locations. Applicants must be available to work 7 days per week, including holidays and all shifts.

Current hourly rate is $17.91 with progression to $27.56. Progression occurs over a 4 year period from date of hire.

  • Operate Agency transit and support vehicles in both revenue and non-revenue service;
  • Maintain an established schedule along a designated route;
  • Be available to operate Agency buses on pre-assigned shifts;
  • Be responsible for the safety of passengers;
  • Collect proper fares according to Agency tariffs;
  • Give transit information;
  • Collect patronage and revenue data as assigned;
  • Prepare report forms;
  • Report equipment defects or failures;
  • And other related tasks as assigned.
The position will function under the general supervision of the Director of Operations and/or the Operations Manager and under the direct supervision of the Operations Supervisor(s).REQUIREMENTS:
  • Demonstrated regular and successful work history - Customer Service experience preferred
  • Must possess a valid US Class C driver's license for 3 consecutive years
  • Current DMV K4 printout (note online printed driver history reports will not be accepted)
  • Minimum age of 21
  • Excellent driving record
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Class B Permit/License with endorsements
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

At the time of application:
A current valid non-restricted Class C Driver's License is required. Additionally, a drivers' history printout (issued not more than 30 days prior to date of application) must be provided with the application.  You must obtain the official driving history from the DMV.  The driving history must be clear of  suspensions for any reason within the past five (5) years and have no more than three (3) points within the past five (5) years, and no two (2) point violations.
No accidents which applicant contributed to cause within 3 years from your application date
Have appeared in court as required

Prior to appointment to the position:
Candidates must provide proof of a Class B Permit with the passenger and air brake endorsements; or a current Class A or B License with the proper endorsements.  

Upon appointment to the position:
All Coach Operators are required to obtain and maintain a valid Class B Driver's License, with the proper endorsements and current medical certificate.

PLEASE NOTE:
The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) wants to inform commercial driver license (CDL) customers about new requirements and updated acceptable documents that becomes effective on May 10, 2017. All new commercial driver license applicants will be required to provide the DMV with proof of California residency as well as proof of U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or legal presence. 

The new requirements apply to original and renewal CDL applicants, as well as CDL cardholders who request a license upgrade.

A few examples of acceptable legal presence documents include:
•A valid, unexpired U.S. passport or passport card
•Certified copy of a birth certificate with a State Office of Vital Statistics or equivalent
•A valid, unexpired Permanent Resident Card
•A valid, unexpired employment authorization document (EAD)
•A valid, unexpired foreign passport with an approved I-94 form
 
A few examples of California residency documents include:
•Rental or lease agreement
•Mortgage bill
•Home utility bills (including cellular phone)
•Medical documents
•Employment documents

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least 21 years old. Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. An additional requirement is that each operator must possess an accurate railroad-type watch, or approved equivalent.

Note to Internal Candidates:
The following areas will be reviewed as part of the selection process: 

  • Will be required to pass job related skills test(s).Testing may include, but is not limited to:
    • Written test(s)
    • Oral test(s)
    • Practical test(s)
  • Past year performance record will be reviewed:
    • No more than 1 verbal warning within a 12 month period
    • Must have zero additional disciplinary actions, i.e. no:
      • Written Warnings
      • Final Warnings
      • Suspension
    • Must have no more than 2 Incidents/miss-outs within the previous 12 month period.
    • Must have no more than 5 Counted Absences within the previous 12 month period.
    • No Preventable Accidents.
    • Performance Appraisal ratings must be at or above "Meets Standards."

 Applications and driving records will be evaluated and only qualified applicants will continue to participate in the selection process, which includes:
  • Driving record review (pass/fail).
  • Written Exam 
  • A performance exam (pass/fail).  
  • Oral interview examination (100% weight).
NOTE: If selected to complete every phase of the selection process, you will undergo a physical ability assessment. This assessment may include, but is not limited to, squatting, bending, stooping and reaching.
