Job Summary:
The Vice President of Accounting will play a critical role overseeing and managing all financial and accounting functions. This senior leadership position requires a deep understanding of accounting principles, regulatory compliance, and financial management within the healthcare or behavioral health industry. The Vice President of Accounting will work closely with the executive team, department heads, and external stakeholders to ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain internal controls, and drive financial strategy. This role demands a strategic thinker with exceptional leadership and communication skills, capable of providing financial insights to support decision-making at the executive level.
Responsibilities:
1. Lead and manage the accounting department, providing direction, guidance, and support to the accounting team
2. Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with regulatory requirements
3. Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
4. Monitor and analyze financial performance, identifying areas for improvement and making strategic recommendations to enhance profitability and operational efficiency
5. Collaborate with external auditors to facilitate the annual audit process and address any audit findings or recommendations.
6. Manage the budgeting and forecasting processes, working collaboratively with department heads to develop accurate financial plans and projections
7. Ensure compliance with healthcare-specific regulations, such as HIPAA, CMS guidelines, and other applicable industry standards
8. Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic initiatives, mergers, acquisitions and business development opportunities
9. Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory developments, and best practices in behavioral health finance, and ensure compliance with emerging opportunities
10. Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including banks, auditors, regulatory agencies, and other external partners
11. Mentor and develop accounting staff, fostering a culture of growth, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the department
