EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Level of Education
- Minimum: Master’s degree in psychology, social work, or related field.
- Level of Experience
- Minimum:3 or more years direct experience providing mental health intervention with children and adolescents.
- Preferred: Experience providing services and/or program development within a secondary or post-secondary school or academic environment.
POSITION SUMMARY
- Under the direction of Riverview Health Clinical Director of Behavioral Health the School Counselor provides direct observation, assessment, guidance and intervention for children and adolescents. The position also functions as a wellness liaison at University High School to coordinate, facilitate, and implement direct and indirect mental health support services promoting a school environment which holistically supports positive social and emotional well-being.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and manage student wellness programs. Maintain and track wellness metrics. Provide reports as required.
- Provide short term counseling and conflict mediation to students and makes referral for outside intervention when appropriate.
- Assist with suicide and violence threat assessment and address risky behaviors.
