What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Materials Testing Technician - Machinist position at Rivian?

Responsibilities:
- Take charge of the machine shop associated with the Materials Testing Laboratory in support of lab engineers.
- Support a wide variety of materials testing and validation from across Rivian shops.
- Interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and sketches to machine and build fixturing and testing samples for unique testing requirements. Verify parts are within specified tolerances and dimensions.
- Apply principles of GD&T.
- Monitor equipment operation and tool wear during machining process and adjust as required.
- Oversee machine shop equipment maintenance, service, and calibration.
- Safely operate advanced equipment including but not limited to 6-axis CNC mill, lathe, drill press, water jet, and bandsaw.
- Capable of operating basic metallographic laboratory equipment and safely working with hazardous chemicals.
- Help design and build one-off parts and fixtures daily. This is not a high-volume production environment.
Qualifications:
- 4 years of experience in a machine shop.
- Experience with common machine shop equipment operation and maintenance (mill, lathe, waterjet, etc.)
- Working knowledge of Fanuc, Siemens, HAAS or other CNC controls.
- Experience with mechanical and environmental in areas including but not limited to:
- Mechanical Testing: Fatigue, tension, compression, shear, peel
- Environmental Testing: EV-exposure, weathering, temperature, humidity
- Experience working with testing and materials standards.
- Familiarity with primary automotive structures such as Body, Interior and Chassis assemblies.
- Familiarity with polymers and polymer chemistry.
- Familiarity with steel and aluminum metallurgy.
- Desire to promote a culture of health and safety in the laboratory.
