Summary:
The Batching Team Lead will supervise, and coordinate activities of associates engaged in duties concerned with the various batching processes of RM Lucas. The lead ensures all associates comply with Safety, Quality, Production, and housekeeping mandates. The Batching lead communicates information to batching associates and acts as a liaison to Management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
- The Batching Lead must abide and ensure the team adheres to regulatory, company safety and quality mandates.
- The lead oversees production schedule, organizes workers and materials for assigned orders to maximize productivity, minimize costs, and maintain quality.
- Assists Batching Manager with daily activities of assigned shift, ensures product adherence to Lucas’s standard of safety, quality, and throughput.
- Communicates timely and frequently with Batching Manager on completion of work projects & expectations, and directives as dictated.
- Provides guidance and training to batching staff.
- Participates in establishing and modifying operational methods and processes by recommending changes in practices and procedures.
- Monitors hour to hour workflow and course corrects as necessary to ensure timely completion of scheduled products to be manufactured.
- Evaluates ongoing schedule and proactively prepares for production accordingly.
- Collaborates with QA to ensure that samples are submitted timely, and adjustment or acceptance confirmations are acknowledged and completed.
- Ensures tickets are filled out accurately, signed, recorded, and submitted.
- Ensures rework is used as required.
- Confirms labels and lots are accurate and adhered to properly.
- Assures that work areas are clean and organized.
- Assists schedule adherence by batching and/or cleaning directly as necessary, especially during employee absences and/or quantity demand.
- Leads by example, incumbent is at work on time and/or early, does not abuse breaks or lunches and maintains an attendance record considered to be in “good standing.”
- Ensure proper use of staged materials including partial drums, totes, and bags of ingredients.
- Provides topics of discussion for daily start up meetings and leads start up meetings during manager’s absence
- Maintains accountability for department and actions of the team.

Education/Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years batch making/ compounding experience required.
- 2-3 years’ experience of being in a lead capacity leading a production team, preferably in a Batching Team.
- High school diploma/ GED required.
Language Ability:
- Read and write English effectively.
Math Ability:
- Fluent in basic math
- Experience in accurate pouring weighing and measure of ingredients in pounds, grams and fluids.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to think on your feet, formulate completion plans, proactively surmount potential mistakes, and communicate timely and succinctly to management.
Computer Skills:
- Microsoft Office
- SAP and/or similar ERP system
Certificates and Licenses:
- 5S and Lean Manufacturing experience desired.
- Forklift certification a plus but not required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Individual will oversee approximately 12 employees comprised of batch makers and batch fillers.
- Individual will be Production Manager back-up when manager is on vacation, and/or in meetings.
Work Environment:
- The plant environment will include working on elevated platforms or ladders at times, working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in production areas.
Physical Demands:
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
