R.M. Lucas Company - Quality Techician 

Summary: Incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that company and customer quality standards are being met by providing oversight during the manufacturing process, reviewing/inspecting finished goods to ensure that they meet quality standards for all applicable parties, and evaluating/updating quality management processes to ensure continuous improvement to meet the evolving demands of our company and our clientele. Must be able to work collaboratively with production, engineering and other areas of the business to provide exceptional service and unquestioned quality to our customers. Must be able to adapt quickly to changes in priorities, tasks, and plant issues as well as contribute to providing effective feedback and/or solutions to mitigate and prevent quality failures.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform analytical testing of bulk product and finished goods using established analytical methods (viscosity, pH, % solids, % moisture, etc.)
  • Record the results of all analytical testing into necessary spreadsheets/documents
  • Identify out of spec (OOS) product and communicate non-conformances with all necessary parties
  • Determine and/or issue adjustments to bring OOS material within an acceptable range, as close to the target value as possible
  • Work with the production and engineering teams to determine the root cause of failures and non-conformances and implement corrective and/or preventative actions
  • Maintain system for obtaining, storing, and disposing of retain samples
  • Maintain system for storage and disposal of lab waste
  • Perform visual inspection on finished goods to determine compliance with product specifications
  • Notify all necessary parties of QA failures ad provide guidance on how to correct them
  • Follow up with production team to ensure that QA failures are being addressed in a timely manner
  • Assist in the inspection and approval of incoming packaging components by confirming specifications
  • Perform temperature checks and occasional quality inspections of materials on the filling line
  • Use SAP to adjust and monitor inventory as needed
  • Directly facilitate and participate in ongoing process improvements both in the lab and in the plant, including but not limited to 5S and Six Sigma methodologies
  • Aid in the development, implementation and maintenance of plant SOP’s and training resources as they pertain to QA
  • Help process finished good returns and customer complaints by finding/testing retains, examining returned goods and communicating all findings with the customer care team
  • Oversee bulk rework creation/consumption by testing product in questions, working with R&D to determine blend ratios, moving bulk rework into its necessary SAP code and providing guidance to the batch making team when needed
  • Help develop, implement, and maintain a system of quality assurance practices to prevent wasted time and resources, including performing production audits and first article inspections
  • Job responsibilities are subject to change based on company needs
  • Support R&D, Engineering, and production with any extra test requests
  • Support facility with continuous improvement projects
  • Drive forklift to move material to inspect
  • Help maintain inventory of lab supplies
  • Issue corrective action and preventative action (CAPA) to appropriate groups
  • Help Quality Manager and Engineering to develop/implement quality standards
  • Send end of shift reports for 1st shift

Education/Experience:

High School Degree and 2-5 years of related experience and/or training.

 

 

Computer Skills   

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Products including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and/or knowledge of Google Products including Google Docs, Sheets, Gmail. Knowledge of SAP is a plus, but not required.
