- Employee Fitness Room
Works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), and provides direct patient care. Contributes to and follows through with plan of care initiated by the RN including reinforcement of education with patient and/or significant other.
- Care Pair: RN and LPN assigned to the same group of patients. This will be a normal ratio for RN based on the RN staffing. The LPN will be able to perform all duties of a PCT and be able to assist with dressing changes and communicate the appearance of the wound to the RN. The RN will still give all medications to the patient; our Meditech system is not set up for LPN and RN sign off.
- Circulating Wound Treatment- If PCT staffing is sufficient, the LPN may circulate through the unit they are assigned and complete daily wound care dressings for the RNs on the unit.
- Observes and reports to the RN changes in patient status, signs, symptoms and effects of treatments and therapeutic procedures.
- Initiates new orders on assigned patients after orders are validated by the Registered Professional Nurse.
- Demonstrate a sound knowledge base in the administration of nursing care for assigned patients.
- Provides the patient with age-appropriate diversional therapy and uses appropriate resources to meet patient needs.
- Attends to patients needs in a courteous manner and timely fashion.
- May administer medications consistent with Hospital/Policy and Procedures when assigned to primary patient caseload including:
- Use available resources to familiarize self with medications.
- Hangs IV medications.
- Administer routine medications within hour due.
- Apply knowledge of pharmacological and physiological effects of medications administered or withheld.
- Under the direction of the RN, instructs patient by giving appropriate information about medications.
- Secures RN validation of doctors' orders and medication transcription prior to initiation of orders.
- Supports the Mission and Vision of RML Specialty Hospital by demonstrating RMLs Core Values of Services, Teamwork, Accountability, Integrity, Respect, and Stewardship (STAIRS) in all actions. Promotes a positive patient customer experience by exemplifying the principles of the Language of Caring in all interactions with patients, families, and coworkers.
- Demonstrates cultural sensitivity when interacting with patients, families, visitors, and co-workers
- Supports clinical staffing on patient care units in accordance with patient clinical needs and budgetary requirements. Ensures that staff provide patient care that is appropriate to the age and developmental status of adult and geriatric patients.
- Ensures compliance with all appropriate regulatory agencies with relevance to the type of care and services provided, such as IDPH, TJC, CMS, OSHA, CDC, etc.
- In cooperation with the Human Resources Department, supports the nurse managers in recruitment of staff, screening, interviewing, and orientation of new employees
- Responsible for risk identification, follow-up intervention, documentation, and related reporting.
- Responsible for creating a safe environment for patients. Is familiar with and supports managers and staff in compliance with applicable patient safety goals.
- In collaboration with department managers, responsible for promoting a safe work environment for staff.
