Student Career Coach, Pathways

The Pathways Student Career Coach will provide student support for Road to Hire’s college access, apprenticeships, and/or high school professional preparation programs. The Student Career Coach should be motivated by the opportunity to develop and create opportunities for under-served youth and young adults in our community. A successful candidate for this role will be a self-starter with excellent organizational and communication skills, who is excited to roll up their sleeves and engage in every element of our programs. This role involves building and maintaining deep relationships with students of many different backgrounds and experiences, engaging mentors and partners to wholeheartedly support students, and supporting students’ professional development. 

The Student Career Coach will be a mission-driven individual with an acute eye for detail, a strong ability to take initiative, comfort interacting with students in groups individually, and confidence in adeptly balancing many priorities. This is a full-time role that may require occasional weekends or evenings.  

Starting salary typically between $45,000 - $50,000 annually. 

Due to the nature of this role a completed COVID-19 vaccination series is required. 

What You’ll Do:

  •  Provide one-on-one support and advising to students and families.
  • Work hand in hand with students to consider a broad range of appropriate post-secondary choices. Ex. Apprenticeships, Universities, or Trade schools. 
  • Communicate with schools and families about student success and path trajectory. 
  • Organize events that encourage students and their families to consider, plan for, and apply to colleges, universities, and/or apprenticeships.
  • Work with local community groups – churches, community-based organizations, social service providers, etc. – to offer group events outside school settings and hours.
  • Assist in the assessment and long-term sustainability of the program.
  • Create and facilitate curriculum based on career and college paths. 
  • Maintain expertise in admissions and financial aid advising.

  • Background or experience in career counseling, teaching and/or education, preferably within high school or college classrooms or programs.
  • Strong relationship-building skills; ability to quickly build trust with team members and students
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Able to balance multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously
  • Seeks out feedback and coaching for continuous improvement
  • Displays confidence, professional presence, and polish; ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure
  • Exercises strong judgment
